Castellanos wins Game 2 for Phillies with 9th-inning single, top Mets 7-6

On NLDS roster Megill is on the Mets' roster for the NLDS versus Philadelphia.
Impact Megill was left off New York's wild-card series roster but is active for the NLDS. The right-hander started 15 of the 16 games in which he pitched during the regular season and compiled a 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 91:32 K:BB over 78 total innings. Megill will likely work in long relief against the Phillies and could be used in that capacity in Game 1 with Kodai Senga likely on a limited pitch count.

Max Kranick hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022. Now he's with the Mets in the playoffs

Max Kranick didn’t pitch an inning for the New York Mets in the regular season and hasn’t appeared in any major league game since May 2022
OCTOBER 1, 2024 • Associated Press
Absent from wild-card roster Megill is not on the Mets' roster for the National League Wild Card Series against the Brewers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Impact Megill wasn't going to be available to pitch in the series after throwing 100 pitches over 5.2 innings Monday in Atlanta, so the Mets will carry a long reliever in Max Kranick instead. Should the Mets advance to the NLDS, Megill is a good bet to be added to their roster at that time.

Fans eight in no-decision Monday Megill came away with a no-decision in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out eig...
Impact The right-hander had some trouble keeping the ball in the yard, serving up a two-run homer to Ozzie Albies in the third inning and a solo shot to Ramon Laureano in the sixth, but the Mets' offense got Megill off the hook for a loss in an eventual 8-7 victory that clinched a wild-card spot for New York. Megill hadn't given up a homer in five starts since rejoining the big-league staff in late August, and in 31 innings over that stretch he sports a 2.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB. It's not clear how the 29-year-old will fit into the Mets' postseason rotation plans, but after throwing 100 pitches Monday (66 strikes) he's likely unavailable for the Wild Card Round.
OCTOBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Game 1 Monday Megill will start Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Impact Megill will get another turn in the rotation before the end of the regular season as New York will be forced to play a doubleheader with Atlanta on Monday. The Mets need to win one of the two contests to clinch a spot in the Wild Card round beginning Tuesday. Megill has compiled a 1.80 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 20 innings in four starts in September.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Only lasts four innings Megill did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Phillies, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six over four innings.
Impact Megill gave up a first inning run while needing 28 pitches to get through the frame. He made quick work of the Phillies hitters in the second and third but needed another 25 pitches to make it through the fourth and saw his day end there after throwing 83 pitches. The Mets would hope to get a bit more length out of Megill in his final start of the season but won't take any risks while in a tight race for the final wild card spot in the National League. Megill is now down to a 3.98 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 83:30 K:BB in 72.1 innings and lines up for a start against the Brewers over the weekend.

Twirls gem vs Washington Megill (4-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
Impact The New York right-hander posted his second consecutive quality start, third overall, with this 94-pitch performance. Megill allowed just one extra-base hit -- a double by Dylan Crews in the second -- working around an unearned run in third en route to his 21st career win. The hard-throwing 29-year-old averaged 96.3 mph on his fastball, up 0.7 mph from his normal, and has now pitched to a 2.76 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB across 29.1 innings in the second half. Megill looks to continue his impressive work against the division-leading Phillies in next start, scheduled for this weekend.

Next start coming Tuesday Megill is expected to make his next start Tuesday against the Nationals at Citi Field, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Impact Though Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Megill would stick in the rotation after striking out nine over six shutout innings Monday against the Blue Jays, the right-hander will have to wait more than a week to make his next turn. While Megill is would be on normal rest for Saturday's game in Philadelphia or five days' rest for Sunday's series finale, the Mets are instead having realigning their rotation to have Luis Severino and David Peterson start those respective games. The shuffling will allow the team's top pitcher, Sean Manaea, to start every five days down the stretch, as the Mets push for a wild-card spot. Manaea will take the hill for Monday's series opener versus the Nationals and will be followed by Megill and Jose Quintana, on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Manaea and Megill will both be on track for two-start weeks, with the two lining up for starts in next weekend's home series versus the Phillies.

Sticking in rotation Manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Megill will get at least one more turn through the rotation, and the right-hander tentatively lines up to pitch Sunday against the Phillies...
Impact The 29-year-old could also be pushed back to start Monday versus the Nationals, but regardless of the specifics, he'll receive another turn through the rotation since Paul Blackburn's (hand/back) return from the injured list has been pushed back. Megill has been a solid depth starter for the Mets this year with a 4.48 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 13 appearances, and he's coming off one of his best starts of the campaign as he held Toronto scoreless over six frames Monday.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Lights out in no-decision Megill didn't factor into the decision Monday against Toronto, allowing one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts across six scoreless innings.
Impact The 28-year-old made another turn in the rotation Monday with Paul Blackburn (hand) not ready to come off the IL. Megill made his case to remain a starter, fanning nine Blue Jays as part of his second scoreless start of the season. Megill has a 2.35 ERA with an 18:4 K:BB across 15.1 innings during his last three starts. If he makes another start, it would likely come against the Phillies this weekend.

Mets RHP Paul Blackburn won't pitch against the Blue Jays because of a sore back

New York Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn won’t pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays this series because of a sore lower back, manager Carlos Mendoza said
SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 • Associated Press
Starting Monday's game Megill will start Monday's game in Toronto, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Paul Blackburn (hand) had been slated to come off the 15-day injured list to start Monday, but the Mets have elected to give the ball to Megill instead. Megill will be pitching on normal rest after yielding three runs over four innings in a start last week against the Red Sox. He could be moved to the bullpen following Monday's outing.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Available in relief Megill is available out of the bullpen Sunday against the Reds, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact The right-hander allowed four runs with a 9:2 K:BB over 9.1 frames in the past two turns through the rotation for the Mets, but he'll shift to the bullpen with Paul Blackburn (hand) returning from the injured list Monday in Toronto. Megill could be called upon for a spot start or two down the stretch, but for now he'll operate in a long-relief role.
SEPTEMBER 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Quick hook in no-decision Megill came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Red Sox, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over four-plus innings. He struck out three.
Impact The Mets handed the right-hander a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Jesse Winker grand slam, but he nearly squandered it in the third. When Megill then gave up a leadoff single to begin the fifth, manager Carlos Mendoza went to his bullpen. Megill hasn't pitched terribly since rejoining the big-league rotation at the end of August, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings over two outings, but he's likely headed to the bullpen with Paul Blackburn (hand) on track to return early next week.

Fans six in third win Megill (3-5) picked up the win in Friday's 5-1 win over the White Sox, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
Impact Making his first big-league start since July 31, Megill got the softest possible opponent in the White Sox, but he still took advantage to record his first MLB win since June 16. With Paul Blackburn (hand) sidelined into September and Christian Scott (elbow) just beginning to ramp back up, Megill figures to get at least one more start for the Mets as they try to stay in the wild-card race. The right-hander will take a 4.82 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 61:23 K:BB through 52.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Red Sox.

Officially called up for start The Mets recalled Megill from Triple-A Syracuse to start Friday's game against the White Sox.
Impact As expected, Megill will fill Paul Blackburn's (hand) vacated spot in the rotation and face off against the White Sox. In his last three starts in Syracuse, Megill has a 4.15 ERA with a 21:5 K:BB across 17.1 innings. He's logged a 5.17 ERA in 10 appearances with the Mets in 2024.
