INJURIES

Returns with two innings Zuber (arm) pitched two innings, allowing a run on two hits and earning a hold in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Pirates.
Impact Zuber hadn't pitched since Friday after he was hit by a comebacker on his right arm. The 25-year-old did alright Wednesday, but he allowed an RBI single to Phillip Evans in the eighth inning before Josh Staumont entered the game for a four-out save. Zuber has a 1.42 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings across five appearances. He's up to two holds on the year.

Could be available Saturday Zuber (arm) could be available to pitch in Saturday's game against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Zuber was hit by a liner on his pitching arm Friday, but he was confident that he'd be available in relief for Saturday's matchup. While manager Mike Matheny called Zuber's assessment "aggressive," it doesn't sound as though the right-hander's injury is a significant concern. Zuber underwent X-rays Friday that came back negative, and he'll visit with trainers once again Saturday.

Hit on pitching arm Zuber (arm) was removed from Friday's game versus the Tigers after he was hit by a batted ball on his pitching arm, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Zuber retired the only batter he faced to finish the sixth inning, but manager Mike Matheny erred on the side of caution after the reliever was hit by the ball. Per Worthy, X-rays on Zuber's arm came back negative, so the right-hander can be considered day-to-day going forward.

Works two innings Monday Zuber pitched two innings and struck out two in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Rays.
Impact Zuber relieved Jake Brentz, who worked into a jam early in the seventh inning. With runners on the corners, Zuber retired the top of the Rays' order to end the threat. He then stayed on for the eighth and pitched a perfect inning. The 25-year-old right-hander has pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed across two appearances. He's not currently part of the Royals' crowded closer committee.

Pitches scoreless inning Zuber allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Angels.
Impact Zuber made his season debut Wednesday and no trouble in a non-save situation in the ninth inning. The 25-year-old should be expected to see mostly low-leverage situations this year. He posted a 4.09 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 30:20 K:BB in 22 innings last year, but his FIP was 5.68, indicating he had fairly good luck.

Recalled from alternate site Zuber was recalled from the alternate training site Tuesday.
Impact The 25-year-old was sent to minor-league camp in mid-March but is now primed for his season debut. Zuber appeared in 23 games for Kansas City in 2020 and had a 4.09 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 30:20 K:BB over 22 innings.

Sent to Triple-A Zuber was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Impact The 25-year-old made 23 appearances last season, posting a 4.09 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 30:20 K:BB over 22 innings for the Royals in his first taste of big-league action, but he won't make the Opening Day roster for 2021. Zuber may begin the year in the minors but remains a likely bet to see the majors at some point this season.

Pitching well to close out season Zuber worked two innings out of the bullpen Tuesday in the Royals' 5-0 loss to the Cardinals, giving up a run on one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Impact Though Zuber saw a streak of seven straight scoreless appearances come to an end, he was still generally effective in the 30-pitch outing, as the lone hit he allowed was a single. Zuber has seemingly asserted himself as a trusted relief option for manager Mike Matheny in September, posting a 1.08 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 15:7 K:BB over 8.1 innings on the month.
