Healthy production with Triple-A Locklear is slashing .282/.372/.427 with six home runs, 17 doubles, one triple, 38 RBI, 34 runs scored and 12 stolen bases over 68 games covering 293 plate appearances with Triple-...
Impact The 24-year-old first baseman is showcasing an intriguing blend of power and speed at first base in the minor leagues. Locklear ranks as Seattle's No. 11 prospect for 2025, per MLB Pipeline, and he remains an option for a Mariners club that has gotten fairly lackluster production overall across their platoon at the cold corner. The lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez has a .720 OPS against righties this season, and the righty-hitting Donovan Solano has a .413 OPS versus southpaws for the year.

Optioned to Tacoma The Mariners optioned Locklear to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Impact Locklear will end up missing the cut for Seattle's Opening Day roster after going 4-for-18 with three RBI and three runs scored over 11 games in the Cactus League. The 24-year-old owns just a .535 career OPS in the majors through 49 plate appearances and will likely need to bounce back offensively in Triple-A before the Mariners consider bringing him back to the big leagues.

Hot bat since Tacoma return Locklear owns a .409 average and 1.162 OPS with a double, two home runs, five RBI, a walk and seven runs over the 23 plate appearances he's logged with Triple-A Tacoma since being...
Impact The rookie's latest stint with the Mariners lasted just five games and 17 plate appearances, a stretch during which Locklear produced an .067 average and mammoth 47.1 percent strikeout rate. However, Locklear has looked right back in his element with the Rainiers, producing multi-hit efforts in three of his past four contests. While Justin Turner (hand) has taken a hold of the everyday role at first base since his trade to Seattle, it's still conceivable Locklear gets another look at the big-league level down the stretch if he continues to perform similar fashion at Tacoma.

Headed back to minors The Mariners optioned Locklear to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Impact The team's trade of Ty France briefly cleared a path to playing time at first base for Locklear, but it quickly closed upon its acquisition of Justin Turner. Locklear will return to Tacoma, where he's put up an .887 OPS this season.

Dropping out of lineup Monday Locklear is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact Locklear will hit the bench Monday after going 1-for-14 with seven strikeouts against two walks while starting in four of the Mariners' first five games following his promotion from Triple-A Tacoma on July 23. Though an everyday role at first base opened up for Locklear when Ty France was designated for assignment last week, the 23-year-old could be on the outside looking in for playing time after the Mariners acquired Justin Turner from the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Turner should be a fixture in the lineup against both right- and left-handed pitching at either first base or designated hitter once he joins the team.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Singles in majors return Locklear, summoned from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, went 1-for-4 in a loss to the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact Locklear is expected to be given an extended look at first base following the jettisoning of Ty France, and the promising prospect was able to get on safely in his first big-league plate appearance since June 20. Consistent contact was an Achilles heel for Locklear, as it is for many rookies, during his first tenure with the Mariners this season, so the fact he struck out in two of his other three plate appearances Tuesday is a reminder he still has plenty of work to do in that regard.
JULY 24, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Called up, batting sixth Tuesday The Mariners recalled Locklear from Triple-A Tacoma, and he's starting at first base and batting sixth Tuesday against the Angels.
Impact The Mariners have elected to move on from first baseman Ty France, and Locklear will now have the opportunity to secure the starting role after posting an .887 OPS between the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season. The 23-year-old received his first taste of the majors in June while France was banged up, but Locklear was sent back to Tacoma after just 11 games. He's poised for a longer stay this time around as one of Seattle's top prospects.
JULY 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Taking over as top first baseman The Mariners are expected to recall Locklear from Triple-A Tacoma this week to take over as the club's everyday first baseman, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Seattle is pulling the plug on incumbent first baseman Ty France, who was placed on irrevocable outright waivers Sunday. The Mariners may have to wait until France is claimed or clears waivers before adding Locklear to the roster in a corresponding move, so it's not immediately clear if Locklear will be available for Monday's series opener versus the Angels. In any case, Locklear will be back in the big leagues soon, and he should have a decent amount of leash in an everyday role as the Mariners look to him to provide a spark to a dormant offense. Locklear owns an .839 OPS over 142 plate appearances on the season at Tacoma and slashed .200/.250/.433 in 32 plate appearances with the Mariners during his first stint in the big leagues back in June.

Makes return from IL Locklear (hand) has gone 2-for-5 with two walks, a stolen base and an RBI in two games since being reinstated from High-A Everett's 7-day injured list Friday.
Impact Locklear missed just over two months with a right hand injury but should settle back into an everyday role at first base with Everett. In 225 plate appearances in the Northwest League this season, the 22-year-old is hitting .314/.427/.568 with 11 home runs and eight stolen bases.
AUGUST 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Thriving at plate in High-A Locklear, the 58th overall pick in the 2022 first-year player draft, owns a .311/.419/.572 slash line with 25 extra-base hits and 37 RBI across 217 plate appearances with High-A Ev...
Impact Those numbers are partly constituted of a career-high 11 home runs, and Locklear has also added the first seven steals of his minor-league tenure for good measure. The 22-year-old's success with the AquaSox thus far appears to have him on a path to logging time at two different affiliates for the second time in as many professional seasons, as a move to Double-A Arkansas at some point this summer wouldn't be particularly surprising.
