Surgery ordered up
D'Arnaud will require surgery to address the torn ligament in his left thumb he sustained in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact
An extended absence was already expected for d'Arnaud after he was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday, but the fact that he'll need surgery to address the injury means he won't be ready to go when first eligible for reinstatement in early July. Instead, Atlanta is targeting a late-season return for d'Arnaud, but even his availability for September would seem to be up in the air at this stage. William Contreras was recalled from the alternate site to replace d'Arnaud on the active roster, and the rookie is likely to serve as Atlanta's primary backstop for the balance of the season unless the team elects to address the catcher position through the trade market.

Lands on 60-day IL
D'Arnaud was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday with a sprained left thumb.
Impact
It was already known the 32-year-old was heading to the shelf after suffering the thumb injury Saturday, but the sprain is apparently severe enough to sideline him for at least the next two months. Alex Jackson (hamstring) was also placed on the injured list, severely testing the organization's depth at catcher. William Contreras was recalled from the alternate training site and is starting Sunday, while Atlanta also selected the contract of veteran Jeff Mathis.

Heading to injured list
D'Arnaud (thumb) will be placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The specifics of the thumb issue remain unclear, though manager Brian Snitker described the injury as "not good." He suffered the injury while making a tag at the plate during the sixth inning Saturday. D'Arnaud will be eligible to return May 12, but he won't have a timeline for his return until he's evaluated further Sunday after flying back to Atlanta. Alex Jackson and William Contreras will handle catching duties in the meantime.

Nursing thumb injury
D'Arnaud exited Saturday's game against Toronto with a left thumb injury.
Impact
He suffered the injury during the sixth inning while tagging out Randal Grichuk in a play at the plate and promptly left the contest. D'Arnaud is likely to be withheld from the lineup for the series finale Sunday afternoon and should be considered day-to-day until his status is updated by the team.

Suffers injury on tag play
D'Arnaud was removed from Saturday's game against the Blue Jays with an apparent left hand/thumb injury, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 32-year-old suffered the injury on his glove hand while making a tag at home plate during the sixth inning. D'Arnaud went 1-for-3 with a strikeout before exiting the contest and should be considered day-to-day.

D'Arnaud isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Plates two runs
D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-7 win over the Cubs.
Impact
D'Arnaud got on the board early in Monday's slugfest, plating both runs in the first inning to give Atlanta an early lead. The 32-year-old has been off to a slow start this year, hitting only .209 with two home runs across 72 plate appearances. His early struggles have not kept d'Arnaud out of the lineup, as he's started behind the plate in 17 out of the team's 22 games this season.

Sitting first game
D'Arnaud is not in the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.
Impact
D'Arnaud has been a near constant in the team's lineup to begin the season, as he's started 15 of the team's 19 games to this point. He'll likely be back behind the dish for the second game of the doubleheader. Alex Jackson will take over at catcher in the early contest.

Not starting Friday
D'Arnaud is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact
D'Arnaud has handled a heavy workload for a catch so far this season, as Friday's game marks just his fourth time out of the lineup through Atlanta's first 19 games. He's performed beneath the high standards he set in recent seasons thus far, hitting just .197/.231/.344. Alex Jackson will get the nod behind the plate Friday.

Joins first-inning homer parade
D'Arnaud went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs Sunday in Atlanta's 13-4 win over the Cubs.
Impact
D'Arnaud was one of four Atlanta players to leave the yard during a six-run first inning, which provided young starting pitcher Bryse Wilson with all the cushion he would need in the series finale. The long ball was d'Arnaud's first since April 4, ending an 11-game dry spell in which he slashed a porous .189/.231/.243. D'Arnaud's track record over the past two seasons coupled with his stranglehold on the No. 1 job in Atlanta over lightly used backup Alex Jackson is still enough to make the 32-year-old one of the top fantasy options at catcher, despite his slow start to 2021.

D'Arnaud isn't starting Monday's game against the Marlins.

Sits for second game of twin bill
D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals.
Impact
D'Arnaud was behind the plate for all seven innings of Atlanta's 7-6 win in the front end of the twin bill, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Alex Jackson will draw the start at catcher in the second game while d'Arnaud gets a breather.

Goes deep Sunday
D'Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's loss against the Phillies.
Impact
D'Arnaud accounted for Atlanta's lone run of the game when he launched a homer in the top of the seventh inning against Zach Eflin -- the only run the right-hander allowed over the course of seven innings. The veteran catcher should remain as the Braves' starting backstop this season, and while he might not repeat what he did in the 2020 shortened campaign when he posted a career-best .919 OPS, he should be a decent fantasy option considering the lack of value at his position across the league.
