Getting another start
Santillan is scheduled to make his second start Friday agains the Padres in San Diego.
Impact
Neither Sonny Gray (groin) nor Jeff Hoffman (shoulder) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when the Reds next require a fifth starter Friday, so Santillan will be awarded another turn through the rotation after a so-so MLB debut against Colorado over the weekend. Though he limited the Rockies to one run, efficiency was an issue for Santillan, who pumped in only 52 of his 97 pitches for strikes while failing to make it out of the fifth inning. He'll need to show better control against a superior Padres offense if he hopes to continue keeping runs off the board.

Solid in MLB debut
Santillan didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rockies after giving up one run on five hits and four walks while fanning five across 4.2 innings.
Impact
Santillan ended just one out away from securing the win in his MLB debut, though removing him with one out left in the fifth was probably the right decision considering he had walked two while also hitting Trevor Story in that same inning. Despite the command issues, it was a decent debut for Santillan, who took advantage of a favorable matchup against the Rockies away from Coors Field. He's expected to make another start next week and, tentatively, he'd line up to pitch in a far tougher matchup against the Padres on the road.

Making big-league debut Sunday
Santillan will start Sunday's game against the Rockies in Cincinnati.
Impact
As expected, the 24-year-old right-hander will temporarily slot into the rotation as a replacement for Sonny Gray (groin), who is expected to miss at least two starts while he's on the injured list. Santillan excelled over his six starts at Louisville this season, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 45:12 K:BB in 32.1 innings. He'll draw a favorable matchup Sunday for his big-league debut against a Rockies offense that ranks last in the majors with a team-wide 58 wRC+ away from Coors Field this season.

Lined up for Sunday start
Santillan will be called up to start Sunday against the Rockies for his major-league debut, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Santillan will step into the rotation for at least one start with Sonny Gray (groin) and Jeff Hoffman (shoulder) both injured. He's not a particularly highly-rated prospect, though he's started this season well at Triple-A Louisville, posting a 2.51 ERA and a 34.4 percent strikeout rate through six starts.

Spot start candidate
Santillan is a potential candidate to get a spot start Friday for the Reds against the Cubs, with the team leading a pitcher to fill the gap until Wade Miley returns, Bobby Nighten...
Impact
The Reds are off on Monday, giving Tyler Mahle, Jeff Hoffman and Sonny Gray their regular rest before needing a spot on Friday. Santillan has a 1.86 ERA over 19.1 innings spread over four starts at Triple-A Louisville. Vladimir Gutierrez is also on the 40-man roster at Louisville and could also make the start.
