Back in action Thursday Murphy (foot) went 1-for-2 with a walk while serving as the designated hitter for Thursday's intrasquad game, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Impact As expected, Murphy was able to make a quick return after fouling a ball off his foot Tuesday, although manager Scott Servais opted to keep him limited to an offensive role Thursday. Murphy is still likely to draw a slight majority of the starts behind the dish this coming season, but Servais previously stated Austin Nola will get a fair share of playing time and the duo could also be complemented with prospects Cal Raleigh and Brian O'Keefe.

Impact Murphy fouled a ball off his foot during Tuesday's intrasquad game, the second time in eight days that he'd done so. The issue doesn't appear likely to threaten his readiness for Opening Day.

Impact The backstop had a similar incident occur July 6, and in that instance, he missed one day of summer camp workouts. Tuesday's foul ball caromed off the lower leg/foot area, and although Murphy was able to tough it out until the end of the frame, he was replaced in the following inning. An update on his condition is likely to come at some point Wednesday.

Battling bruised foot Murphy is expected to skip workouts Monday after fouling a ball off his foot Sunday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Impact Murphy isn't expected to miss much time, as the issue isn't thought to be anything worse than a bruise. Barring setbacks, he should have plenty of time to get ready to serve as the Mariners' Opening Day catcher.

Impact Raleigh reached Double-A Arkansas for the first time in 2019, slashing .228/.296/.414 across 159 plate appearances over 39 games with the Travelers. Those numbers, as well Raleigh's .188 average (3-for-16) before Cactus League play was paused, both support the notion he'd be best served putting in at least a partial season back at the Double-A level this year, but that isn't likely to be a possibility. Therefore, Brock reasons the next best option to keep Raleigh's development going in some form is to keep him in proximity to the big-league club, which, among other benefits, would give the young catcher a chance to learn from veteran Tom Murphy.
