Impact Valdez began the season as the Orioles' closer but will end it having been designated for assignment twice. As a 36-year-old who posted a 5.87 ERA this season over 46 innings, it's unsurprising that he passed through waivers unclaimed.

Impact He gave up five earned runs while striking out nine in 6.1 innings through two rehab starts. Zimmermann will take the rotation spot of Keegan Akin, who is done for the year with a left adductor strain. Zimmermann could make two starts next week if the Orioles stick with a five-man rotation.

Impact The 29-year-old rookie owns an 8.42 ERA in 10 starts and four relief appearances so far this season, striking out just 13.6 percent of opposing batters. It looks as though he's up as a reliever this time around, taking the bullpen spot that had belonged to Tyler Wells, who landed on the injured list with a shoulder injury.
