Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Scottsdale, AZ
José Castillo - Throwing bullpen session Castillo (thigh) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Castillo exited his first Cactus League appearance on Feb. 22 with left adductor tightness and hasn't pitched since. He is ready to ramp up his throwing again but it's not clear when he might be available to pitch in a game. Castillo is in camp as a non-roster invitee and the injury likely eliminated any chance he had to make the Opening Day roster.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Jose Herrera - Will not miss any time Herrera is not expected to miss any time after exiting Sunday's contest against the Rangers with right wrist soreness, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Herrera is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Monday, but he was simply not scheduled to play. The 28-year-old is competing to be the club's backup catcher behind Gabriel Moreno.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Kendall Graveman - Slated for live batting practice Graveman (back) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Graveman was cleared to face hitters after throwing a 22-pitch bullpen session over the weekend. The veteran reliever is on the mend from a back injury and would appear close to making his Cactus League debut if he continues to progress. It's not yet clear whether he'll have time to be ready for Opening Day.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Tim Tawa - Sent down to minors The Diamondbacks optioned Tawa to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Tawa was added to the 40-man roster over the winter after slugging 31 home runs between Double-A Amarillo and Reno in 2024 and he will head back to Reno to begin the 2025 campaign. The 25-year-old can play all over the diamond, and his versatility should give him a chance to make his debut later this season.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Cristian Mena - Cut from big-league camp The Diamondbacks optioned Mena to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Mena missed much of the 2024 season with a forearm injury, but he was healthy this spring and threw three scoreless innings during Cactus League play. However, the 22-year-old will head back to Reno for now and work to find the strike zone more often.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Yilber Diaz - Optioned to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact Diaz has tossed 3.2 innings this spring, but he's a ways down in the Arizona rotation pecking order. The 24-year-old has some of the best stuff among Diamondbacks pitching prospects, but whether or not he'll be able to remain a starting pitcher will depend on his ability to throw enough strikes.
MARCH 10 ROTOWIRE
Nathan Eovaldi - Command issues Sunday Eovaldi allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in Sunday's spring start against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Eovaldi threw a spring-high 75 pitches in his third Cactus League outing. He told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News he was off mechanically and struggled to locate his fastball. Beyond that, the right-hander said he felt fine and was pleased with his curveball, which elicited seven swing-and-misses (14 thrown) and none were hit into play. Eovaldi believes he knows what went wrong for him Sunday and how to correct it. Nothing has been decreed yet, but Eovaldi is a good bet to start Opening Day.
