Amazin' at-bat: Mets' Guillorme draws 22-pitch walk vs Hicks

New York Mets backup Luis Guillorme had quite an at-bat in spring training Sunday

Here's another big Hicks number: 101.4 mph The Cardinals planned for Jordan Hicks to get an inning of work in his first game since June 2019. They didn’t expect an inning’s worth to c...

Stellar night in win Nogowski, battling for a reserve spot this spring, went 4-for-4 with four RBI in a Grapefruit League win over the Marlins on Saturday.
Impact Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports two of Nogowski's three run-scoring singles came with two outs, making his night at the plate all the more impressive. The success at the dish Saturday pushed the 28-year-old's spring average to .353 (6-for-17) and his RBI tally to eight, enhancing his bid to serve as Paul Goldschmidt's primary backup at first base while also potentially logging some time in the outfield as well.

Impressive but ticketed for minors Liberatore is highly unlikely to start the season at the major-league level despite an impressive spring, even considering the Cardinals' multiple starting pitcher injuries, Zachar...
Impact A leap from the Low-A level, where Liberatore toiled in 2019 while still with the Rays organization, to the majors would be quite the feat, especially after a missed year of in-game development in 2020. However, Liberatore is certainly planting the seed for a potentially rapid ascension through the ranks with his early spring efforts, which include a 27-pitch, two-inning perfect effort Saturday versus the Marlins. The 21-year-old southpaw has a 2.08 ERA across 4.2 Grapefruit League innings (three appearances), a caliber of performance that should earn him a ticket to Double-A Springfield, at minimum, to open the campaign.

Impressive in starting opportunity Ponce de Leon started Saturday's Grapefruit League win over the Marlins, allowing an earned run on four hits, a walk and a hit batsman across 3.2 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Ponce de Leon entered spring training as a candidate for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, which, at the time, was the only projected vacancy. Subsequently, No. 3 starter Miles Mikolas (shoulder) has seen his chances of Opening Day availability diminish significantly, and more recently, No. 2 hurler Kwang Hyun Kim has been temporarily sidelined with back tightness after struggling with velocity early. Consequently, Ponce de Leon's chances of earning some early-season starts seem to have gone up, and Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports Saturday's outing naturally served to fuel his candidacy. "I was really encouraged by Ponce's start tonight," manager Mike Shildt said postgame. "His arsenal was quality tonight. Really big league quality for sure."
