Blows save Sunday Romo pitched one-third of an inning in Sunday's 3-2 triumph over the Angels, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and blowing the save in the ninth inning.

Impact Romo entered in the ninth inning to protect a 2-0 lead and surrendered three hits while only recording one out. He was removed and replaced with Lou Trivino who navigated the jam and got the win in extras. The blown save is Romo's second in eight September appearances and he has an unsightly 15.00 ERA in six innings this month.

Garners third save Romo secured his third save in a win over the Angels on Friday, firing a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout.

Impact The veteran right-hander got a relatively rare ninth-inning call and was up to the task, working around a baserunner to get through the frame on 14 pitches and preserve the Athletics' one-run lead. Romo went through a considerably rocky stretch where he allowed 11 earned runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings in six appearances between Aug. 28 and Sept. 14, but he has bounced back with back-to-back scoreless efforts and clearly still has the trust of manager Bob Melvin to pitch in high-leverage spots when the need arises.

Impact The right-hander completed a total meltdown by the Oakland bullpen that saw three relievers, including erstwhile closer Lou Trivino, cough up nine runs in the final two frames. Romo was still the guy stuck with the blown save though, his third of the year, and while Trivino's recent back spasms and poor performances may have thrown open the ninth-inning role, Romo isn't making a strong case to claim it with a 6.23 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over his last nine appearances and 8.2 innings.

Fortunately for Oakland, Romo retired Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Gallo to clinch his first save of the campaign.
