Ryan Weathers - Likely to start fifth game of year Weathers is likely to start the fifth game of the season for the Padres, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Acee notes how well Weathers has pitched this spring, and it's worth pointing out that the left-hander made changes to his delivery before the season that appear to have paid off. The southpaw will likely be on the bump for Monday's start against the Diamondbacks with a chance to earn more starts for San Diego if he pitches well in the early part of the season.

Jason Groome - Optioned to El Paso Groome was optioned to Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Monday.
Impact Groome showed some flashes of brilliance in Arizona during the Cactus League with a 1.29 ERA, but he also registered a 13:10 K:BB which showed that the command still has some work to be done. The 2016 first-round pick could be an option for San Diego before the end of the year.

Cooper Hummel - Nabs Opening Day spot Hummel is part of the Mariners' Opening Day roster, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact The versatile Hummel finished spring training with walks across each of his last three plate appearances Sunday and Monday, capping a strong body of work in Cactus League play that included a .275/.420/.675 line across 50 plate appearances. Kramer notes Hummel's versatility -- he's capable of filling in at catcher and the corner outfield spots -- helped seal his spot on the Opening Day roster, although his offensive contributions certainly may have put him over the top.

Tommy La Stella - Encouraging showing Sunday La Stella played five innings at third base and 2-for-3 in Sunday's Cactus League tie with the Padres.
Impact Three days after getting work in the field at first base, La Stella tested his previously strained shoulder with work at the hot corner and seemingly came away without setbacks. The veteran appears to be nearing or at full health heading into Opening Day as he prepares to fill a utility role during the coming season.

Fernando Tatis Jr. - Could be leadoff man once eligible Manager Bob Melvin suggested Monday that Tatis (suspension) could serve as the Padres' leadoff hitter once he's eligible to make his 2023 MLB debut April 20, AJ Cassavell of MLB.co...
Impact Tatis is batting second in Monday's Cactus League finale versus the Mariners, but he led off in Sunday's 5-5 tie win Seattle. He heads into Monday's contest with a .286/.354/.452 slash line with two home runs and three stolen bases, and more importantly, he's displayed no ill effects of the surgeries he underwent last fall on his left wrist and left shoulder. Tatis will have the opportunity to stay dialed in at the plate while participating in minor-league rehab games shortly before his 20-game suspension lapses in late April, at which time Melvin will likely reassess where the 24-year-old fits best in the lineup. If Tatis ends up settling into the leadoff spot, he should have no shortage of run-scoring opportunities while slotting directly in front of Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts.
