Daniel Ponce de Leon - Signs minor-league contract Ponce de Leon signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Saturday, Tacoma Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto reports.
Impact Ponce was a non-roster invitee with the Angels this spring but was ultimately released by the organization Monday. The right-hander will start the second game of a doubleheader at Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.

Max Kepler - Hitting seventh versus righty Kepler will start in right field and bat seventh in Saturday's game against the Mariners, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Impact In Friday's season-opening 2-1 loss to Seattle, the lefty-hitting Kepler slotted ninth in the order while the Mariners brought southpaw Robbie Ray to the hill. Even though Seattle is sending a right-hander in Logan Gilbert to the mound for the second game of the series, Kepler won't get much of an upgrade in terms of lineup positioning. Though he looks to be an everyday player for Minnesota, Kepler may have to settle for a bottom-third spot in the order against both left- and right-handed pitching when the lineup is at full strength.

Jorge Polanco - Keeps prominent lineup spot in 2022 Polanco will start at second base and hit cleanup in Saturday's game against the Mariners, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Impact While slotting third in the order Friday with Seattle bringing lefty Robbie Ray to the hill, Polanco went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Twins' 2-1 loss. Seattle will send a right-hander in Logan Gilbert to the hill Saturday, but Polanco will remain locked into a prominent spot in the order. Polanco's inclusion in the heart of the order versus both lefties and righties comes as little surprise following a career-best 2021 campaign in which he hit .269 with 33 home runs, 98 RBI, 97 runs and 11 stolen bases.

Paul Sewald - Grabs first hold Sewald was credited with his first hold in a win over the Twins on Friday, firing a perfect eighth inning.
Impact Sewald made quick work of the Twins in a 13-pitch eighth inning that saw him impressively dispose of the potent trio of Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa and Jorge Polanco. The veteran right-hander put together a diverse resume in 2021 that included 11 saves and 16 holds, and he could have a similarly fluid high-leverage role this season.
