Justus Sheffield - Demoted as part of roster cuts Sheffield was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Sheffield made four relief appearances for the Mariners during the first few weeks of the regular season, and he struck out two in 4.2 scoreless frames. However, he'll head to the Tacoma, where he'll likely be part of the starting rotation.

Donovan Walton - Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma Walton was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Walton joined the major-league club in mid-April but appeared in just one game and didn't record any plate appearances. It isn't very surprising to see him sent to the minors as part of the team's roster cuts prior to Monday's deadline, and he should see more playing time in Tacoma.

Robbie Ray - Struggles with control Saturday Ray (2-2) was charged with the loss against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks across five innings while recording eight strikeouts.
Impact Ray had his swing-and-miss stuff in season-best form Saturday, but he also tied a season high with four walks. The veteran southpaw had mostly breezed through his first four frames before the Marlins got to him in the fifth with a pair of RBI singles and by drawing a free pass with the bases loaded. Ray's first opportunity to make up for the stumble is slated to come at home against the Rays either Thursday or Friday.

Impact Mitch Haniger's return from the COVID-19 injured list Friday looked as though it would send Toro back into a utility role, but that didn't last long. In his first game back from the bout with the illness, Haniger suffered a Grade 2 high-ankle sprain that resulted in him being placed on the IL on Saturday. With Haniger out of the picture, Jesse Winker, Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic should form the Seattle outfield in most games, leaving Eugenio Suarez and Toro to split third base and DH duties.
