Luis García - Records 10th hold Thursday Garcia earned a hold against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out two over one inning.

Impact A one-out error by first baseman Eric Hosmer led to a run in the inning, but Garcia limited the damage while striking out a pair of hitters. He picked up his 10th hold of the season, but it was just his first over his past five outings. Garcia leads the team in that category this season.

Jurickson Profar - Belts eighth homer Thursday Profar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs in a 6-4 victory against the Cubs on Thursday.

Impact Profar produced the Padres' final run of the game, swatting a solo shot off David Robertson in the eighth inning. This was his 20th straight start hitting out of the leadoff spot, and he's reached base safely in all but three of those contests. Profar is batting .337 (28-for-83) with three home runs, seven doubles, 15 RBI, 22 runs and a 10:17 BB:K while batting atop the order this season.

Clint Frazier - Remains with Cubs Frazier accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Initially it was reported that he was mulling his options, but Frazier opted to remain with the Cubs, as there likely wasn't a team willing to give him a 40-man roster slot and pay the rest of his $1.5 million contract for this season. Frazier will likely put up impressive numbers at Iowa, but he is not a key part the Cubs' long-term plans.

Clint Frazier - Clears waivers, mulling options Frazier cleared waivers and has yet to decide whether he will accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa or elect free agency, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Impact It sounds like Frazier's representatives will try to find another home for him, but he may head to Iowa if the pickings are slim. Once a top prospect with Cleveland and New York, Frazier has been unable to recapture the form he showed from 2018 through 2020, when he hit .267/.351/.485 with 20 home runs in 123 games. He is hitting .216/.356/.297 in 45 plate appearances this year. Injuries have also played a part in his struggles.

Frank Schwindel - Dealing with low back tightness Schwindel exited Friday's game against Atlanta due to low back tightness, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Impact Schwindel appeared to suffer his injury while running to first base in the bottom of the second inning, and he was replaced defensively to begin the third frame. It's not yet clear whether the 29-year-old's injury will force him to miss more time, but he'll presumably be monitored ahead of Saturday's game.
