Back with Bucs Simon (shoulder) signed a minor-league deal with the Pirates on Thursday.

Impact Simon was non-tendered by the Pirates in late November, but he's back with the organization. He presumably has an invitation to spring training, though that wasn't specified in the contract details. Simon is recovering from labrum surgery but is expected to be cleared to return in March.

Non-tendered by Pirates Simon (shoulder) was non-tendered by the Pirates on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Impact Simon made his big-league debut in 2025, first with the Marlins and then with the Pirates. He totaled 88 plate appearances, slashing .234/..299/.273. Simon is currently recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum, but he is expected to be cleared in early March.

Impact Simon appeared in 27 MLB games in 2025 between Miami and Pittsburgh, slashing just .234/.299/.273 across 88 plate appearances. He finished the Triple-A season with an .844 OPS over 308 plate appearances, however, which may be good enough for another team to bring him in via waiver claim.

Labrum surgery on tap The Pirates announced Wednesday that Simon has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will undergo surgery in October once the bone heals, MLB.com reports.

Impact Pittsburgh placed Simon on the shelf Aug. 30 with an injury the team initially labeled as a dislocated shoulder, but follow-up tests revealed that he was dealing with damage to his labrum. He'll miss the rest of the season, and assuming his upcoming surgery in October goes off without any complications, he's expected to be cleared for baseball activities in early March. Even so, the shoulder issue could make the 25-year-old Simon a non-tender candidate this offseason after he slashed a middling .234/.299/.273 over 88 big-league plate appearances with Miami and Pittsburgh in 2025.
