Five walks in no-decision Contreras allowed one run on four hits and five walks while striking out four in five innings. He did not factor into the decision in a 4-2 loss Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Impact Contreras struggled with his control in the second inning and walked four batters, including one with the bases loaded. He pitched around trouble the rest of the way and held the Rays scoreless over the final three frames. Sunday's start was fairly representative of Contreras' season as the 22-year-old limited runs while pitching around walks. For the season he has a 2.76 ERA despite a 1.35 WHIP and 42:19 K:BB in 42.1 innings. His next start will likely be next weekend against Milwaukee.

Impact The rookie didn't flash the dominance he's capable of, but Contreras didn't need to as he got staked to a 5-0 lead by the end of the third inning. He has yet to complete six innings in a start, which limits his fantasy upside in formats that value categories like quality starts, but since moving into the rotation in late May, Contreras has delivered a 2.73 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB through 29.2 innings.

Impact Contreras was excellent through five innings, but a one-out Ketel Marte double, an error and a wild pitch allowed Arizona to get on the board first in the sixth. That left Contreras in line for a loss until Jack Suwinski walked it off for the Pirates with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. The 22-year-old right-hander has given up three runs (two earned) in 15.2 innings over his last three starts, which is giving him a strong case to stay in the rotation.
