Impact Montero had struggled to limit run production recently, as he posted a 13.09 ERA and 2.64 WHIP in 11 innings across his last eight relief appearances. He'll now be removed from the 40-man roster after right-hander Casey Sadler (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Problems persist Sunday Montero allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while recording two strikeouts over two innings in a loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Impact Montero thus closes out the first half of the season in the midst of an extremely worrisome stretch of pitching that saw him post a 12.00 ERA, 2.44 WHIP and 2.0 HR/9 over the nine innings covering his last six starts. The right-hander's one-time closer responsibilities are a distant memory at this point, and manager Scott Servais may have a difficult time trusting Montero for anything other than low-leverage work moving forward.

Impact Montero's struggles continued Tuesday, as he pitched to plenty of contact, the most damaging which was a three-run home run by former Rangers teammate Rougned Odor. The struggling right-hander has now given up multiple earned runs in four of his last five appearances, ballooning his ERA and WHIP to 6.64 and 1.47, respectively, across 39.1 innings.

Impact Montero also worked the 10th in Saturday's 6-5 win over Tampa Bay and turned in a perfect frame in that instance as well. The right-hander's two wins over the weekend series were a welcome sight, considering Montero had allowed a combined five earned runs in two of his previous three appearances. Montero still sports a bloated 5.29 ERA on the season, but the veteran's victories help make up for the fact he hasn't secured a save since May 29.

Impact Montero entered the bottom of the ninth inning holding a three-run lead and while he retired the first two batters he faced, he also struggled badly when he had to close things out. Montero yielded a second two-bagger before getting the hook, with the amount of hard contact a continuing concern after he'd also allowed three earned runs, including a home run, two appearances prior against the Dodgers.
