Diagnosed with lat strain
Montero was diagnosed with a strained right lat Friday and has yet to resume throwing, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Montero has spent the minimum 10 days on the injured list with what was originally described as shoulder soreness. As it turns out, the injury is worse than originally reported, and he won't be returning any time soon. It's not yet clear exactly when the Astros expect him back.

Dealing with shoulder soreness
Montero was removed from Sunday's loss to the Twins due to shoulder soreness, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Montero left the game with a trainer in the top of the eighth inning after throwing 24 pitches. Whether the issue requires a trip to the injured list remains to be seen, but the right-hander will be evaluated Monday during the Astros' scheduled day off.

Exits with trainer
Montero exited Sunday's game against the Twins in the top of the eighth inning with an apparent injury, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Montero threw 24 pitches to begin his outing and retired the first two batters he faced. However, he apparently felt something and exited the game following a brief visit with trainers. The nature and severity of the right-hander's injury aren't yet known.

First loss with new team
Montero (5-4) allowed an unearned run on one hit and struck out one in one inning, taking the loss versus Minnesota on Friday.
Impact
The right-hander allowed an RBI single to Josh Donaldson in the 11th inning, and Houston's offense wasn't able to produce a second tying run as they had an inning before. This was Montero's first loss in three appearances with the Astros. While he began the year as the closer in Seattle, he's pitched to a poor 6.61 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB across 47.2 innings. He's unlikely to challenge for Ryan Pressly's closer job anytime soon -- prior to Friday, both of Montero's previous outings with Houston were longer than an inning.

Shipped to Astros
Montero and Kendall Graveman were traded from the Mariners to the Astros on Tuesday in exchange for Abraham Toro and Joe Smith, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Montero was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday, and he'll join the Astros rather than go through the waiver wire. The 30-year-old converted seven of 13 save chances this season and has struggled with a 7.27 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB across 43.1 innings.
