Matthew Liberatore - Headed back to minors Liberatore was returned to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Impact Liberatore made his fourth career major-league start during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Pirates, and he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five in five scoreless innings to earn the win over Pittsburgh. However, the left-hander served as the 27th man during the twin bill and will head back to the minors after Jack Flaherty (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Packy Naughton - Heads to minors The Cardinals optioned Naughton to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Impact Naughton was sent packing to clear a spot on the active roster for Jack Flaherty (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his season debut Wednesday against the Pirates. After getting called up from Triple-A on May 30, Naughton made three appearances -- two as an opener and one out of the bullpen -- and gave up five earned runs over four innings.

Jack Flaherty - Reinstated from 60-day IL Flaherty (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start against the Pirates.

Impact Flaherty missed the first two and a half months of the regular season due to shoulder inflammation, but he'll make his season debut at home against the Pirates in Wednesday's series finale. The right-hander was effective over his two rehab appearances, posting a 1.29 ERA and 0.14 WHIP in seven innings. However, he tossed just 58 pitches during his outing at Triple-A Memphis and will be limited to approximately 60 pitches during his return to major-league action Wednesday.

Ali Sánchez - Dropped from 40-man roster The Cardinals designated Sanchez for assignment Wednesday.

Impact Sanchez was moved off the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Jack Flaherty (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Pirates. St. Louis is now left with three other catchers (Yadier Molina, Andrew Knizner and Ivan Herrera) on its 40-man roster.

Mike Burrows - One step closer to majors Burrows was promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Adam Babetski of the Altoona Mirror reports.

Impact The 22-year-old righty posted a 2.94 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69:19 K:BB in 52 innings across 12 starts at Double-A. Burrows has been fantastic for most of the season and will make his Triple-A debut Sunday.
