Phillies finalize $28M, 2-year deal with Didi Gregorius The Philadelphia Phillies and shortstop Didi Gregorius have finalized a two-year, $28 million contract

Cardinals acquire 6-foot-9 righthander with 98-mph fastball from Phillies for bullpen depth Johan Quezada was a Florida State League All-Star in 2019 and made his major-league debut with Miami this past September.

Signs minor-league contract Kintzler signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Kintzler has had two of the best seasons of his career over the past two years. He converted on 13 of his 17 save chances while posting a 2.55 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 81.1 innings across 86 relief appearances with the Cubs and Marlins. The 36-year-old reportedly turned down a major-league offer to return to Miami in 2021, and he'll instead compete for a roster spot with the Phillies during spring training.

AP Source: Phillies, righty Chase Anderson agree on deal The Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Chase Anderson have agreed on a one-year contract, according to a person familiar with the deal
FEBRUARY 3 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Signs with Phillies Anderson signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Phillies on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact Anderson's $9.5 million contract option was declined by the Blue Jays in late October, but he's now agreed to terms with Philadelphia ahead of the 2021 campaign. The righty posted a career-worst 7.22 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 33.2 innings with the Blue Jays in 2020 and will attempt to return to form in 2021 after recording a 3.83 ERA over four seasons with Milwaukee. He should be one of several pitchers competing for a back-end rotation spot with the Phillies during spring training.
FEBRUARY 3 • ROTOWIRE
Invited to camp by Phillies Rondon signed a minor-league contract which includes an invitation to big-league camp with the Phillies on Tuesday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact The Phillies will be hoping they get the pitcher Rondon was with the Astros in 2018 and 2019, when he recorded a combined 3.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He wasn't anything close to that guy with the Diamondbacks last year, struggling to a 7.65 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 20 frames as his walk rate rose to 11.3 percent and his groundball rate fell to 35.5 percent. Heading into his age-33 season, a bounceback is far from guaranteed, but the risk of a minor-league deal is obviously quite low for the Phillies.

Feeling fully healthy Realmuto feels 100 percent after recovering from the hip flexor strain he battled late in the season, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
Impact Realmuto missed 11 games with the issue in mid-September and spent time at first base and designated hitter after his return. Despite the fact that he was able to return before the end of the regular season, he indicated Monday that he didn't feel fully healthy until three or four weeks into the offseason. Now fully healed, the issue doesn't appear to be a significant cause for concern for the star catcher heading into his age-30 season.

AP source: Phillies, SS Didi Gregorius agree on 2-year deal The Philadelphia Phillies and shortstop Didi Gregorius have agreed on a two-year, $28 million contract, according to a person familiar with the deal
JANUARY 30 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Returning to Philadelphia Gregorius agreed to a two-year, $28 million contract with the Phillies on Saturday, Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports.
Impact Gregorius drew interest from several clubs in free agency, but he'll ultimately return to the Phillies on a two-year pact. The 30-year-old should reclaim his job as the starting shortstop in Philadelphia after slashing .284/.339/.488 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI while appearing in all 60 games during the 2020 season.

Phillies make it official, sign J.T. Realmuto to 5-year deal two-time All-Star catcher J

Dropped from 40-man roster Hamilton was designated for assignment Friday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer repots.
Impact Hamilton finds himself designated for assignment for the third time in just over four months, having been dropped by the White Sox in September and the Mariners in December. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll find his way to yet another organization. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the Phillies to add back J.T. Realmuto.
JANUARY 29 • ROTOWIRE
Returns stateside with Phillies Moore signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Phillies on Friday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Impact The veteran lefty cruised to a 3.53 ERA over his first four big-league seasons but went overseas to join the NPB's Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in 2020 after struggling to a 5.13 ERA over his next five campaigns. Moore was limited to just 13 starts for the Japanese champions due to a calf injury, but he was quite good when available, finishing with a 2.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 27.8 percent strikeout rate. Giving Moore a big-league deal suggests the Phillies think he has a real role to play this season, and that role could be as the team's fifth starter, as Vince Velasquez doesn't provide the stiffest competition for that job.
JANUARY 29 • ROTOWIRE
Lands with Phillies on minors deal Nova (triceps) signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Impact The deal will pay the veteran righty $1.5 million if he's able to make the big-league roster. Now 34 years old, Nova appeared to have something left in the tank up until very recently, recording an unexciting but acceptable 4.31 ERA from 2016 to 2019. His 2020 campaign went quite poorly, however, as he struggled to an 8.53 ERA and a 9:9 K:BB in four starts before being shut down with triceps tendinitis. Beating out Vince Velasquez for the Phillies' fifth starter spot is certainly not an insurmountable task if Nova is fully healthy, though he won't be a particularly exciting fantasy option if he does win the job, as he's been a low-strikeout innings eater for the bulk of his career.

AP sources: Phillies, Realmuto agree on $115.5 million deal Two people familiar with the deal tell The Associated Press that the Philadelphia Phillies and two-time All-Star catcher J
JANUARY 26 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Back in backup role Knapp will head back to his typical backup catcher role this upcoming season, as Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports the Phillies signed J.T. Realmuto to a five-year, $115.5 milli...
Impact Realmuto became a free agent after declining a qualifying offer in November, leaving Knapp potentially lined up to enter the season as a starter. He'll now revert to the backup role which probably suits him best, as his .230/.337/.350 career slash line isn't exactly starter material given his mediocre glove. The Phillies' hitter-friendly home park and Knapp's encouraging .278/.404/.444 line in a small sample of 89 plate appearances do make him an interesting option should Realmuto miss time at any point this season, but Realmuto has always handled a heavy workload when healthy, so there's little sense picking up Knapp unless that happens.
JANUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Remaining in Philadelphia Realmuto agreed to a five-year, $115.5 million deal to return to the Phillies on Tuesday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact There was no better player to fill the Realmuto-shaped hole in Philadelphia than Realmuto himself, so it makes sense that he and the Phillies were able to come to terms on a deal that suits both sides. Realmuto's average annual value of $23.1 million will be the highest ever for a catcher. It's hard to say the contract is undeserved, as he's been the top backstop in the league over the last several seasons. Heading into his age-30 season, Realmuto will presumably start declining sometime soon, but he showed no signs of doing so last season, hitting .266/.349/.491 with 11 homers and four steals in 47 games. He should remain a key piece of a decent lineup in a hitter-friendly park for the foreseeable future.
JANUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Inks minor-league pact with Phils Mitchell agreed Tuesday with the Phillies on a minor-league contract, Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports.
Impact Mitchell spent 2020 in the White Sox's 60-man roster pool, but he never received a promotion from the alternate training site before being released in late August. The 29-year-old lefty -- whose last MLB action came in 2018 -- appears likely to begin the 2021 campaign in the rotation at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
JANUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
JA Happ, Twins finalize $8 million, 1-year contract The Minnesota Twins and pitcher J
JANUARY 22 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Signs MiLB deal with Phillies Paulino signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Thursday.
Impact Paulino failed to find a spot with any team in 2020 after being released by the Blue Jays in August of 2019, but he'll get to compete for a role with Philadelphia in 2021. The 26-year-old made brief appearances in the majors over three seasons, posting a 5.48 ERA and 42:12 K:BB over 42.2 innings across 16 appearances (seven starts). Given his past experience in the big leagues, Paulino could certainly get the chance to work with the major-league coaching staff during spring training.

Phillies acquire CJ Chatham from Red Sox The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired infielder C
JANUARY 18 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Heading to Philadelphia Chatham was traded from Boston to Philadelphia in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Impact Chatham may have a big-league future but doesn't look set for stardom. The 26-year-old was part of the Red Sox's player pool last season but didn't get the chance to make his big-league debut. He's only played 20 games at the Triple-A level, posting a 92 wRC+. Chatham has a classic bench infielder profile, as he makes decent contact and can play a fine shortstop but has very little power, hitting .298/.337/.402 over four minor-league seasons. He'll be in the mix for a bench spot with the Phillies this spring but is unlikely to be an exciting fantasy option even if he winds up with unexpected playing time.
JANUARY 18 • ROTOWIRE
Dropped from 40-man roster The Phillies designated Arano for assignment Monday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Arano's removal from the 40-man roster clears a spot for infielder C.J. Chatham, whom the Phillies acquired from the Red Sox in a corresponding transaction. After he posted a 2.73 ERA while striking out 60 over 59.1 innings in his age-23 season in 2018, Arano looked like he might be a long-term piece in the Philadelphia bullpen, but the right-hander has struggled with elbow and shoulder injuries over the last two seasons. If he can show improved velocity and command at spring training, Arano could still have an outside shot at making the Phillies' Opening Day roster.
