Impact The Rockies will be utilizing their bullpen to get through the game, but Lambert will start the contest. He has pitched as many as 3.1 innings this season, though both of his most recent outings have lasted only one frame. He's unlikely to work deep enough into the game to qualify for the win.

Innings to be limited early Lambert (elbow) will have his innings capped to begin the 2023 season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Impact Lambert told Harding that this is the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020 that he feels ready to contribute to the pitching staff. He's expected to receive a normal workload during the Cactus League, but then will be on strict limits for the beginning of 2023. Lambert showed promise as a prospect, but there's too much volatility to consider him a potential fantasy option to begin the year.

Should be ready for spring Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt said Friday that Lambert (elbow) is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Impact Between the minors and majors, Lambert has covered just 30.1 innings since the start of the 2020 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of that year. Though he dealt with related forearm and elbow issues in 2022, the 25-year-old right-hander looks to have avoided another surgery and should be ready to compete for a back-end rotation spot with the Rockies this spring. However, given that he owns a 7.48 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 95 innings in the majors and has struggled to stay on the mound in recent years, Lambert is more likely to open the season at Triple-A Albuquerque to shake off the rust before Colorado potentially gives him another look.

Impact Lambert is expected to make a one-inning start for Albuquerque in what will mark his first appearance in affiliated ball of the season. He missed the entire 2020 campaign and most of the 2021 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he was expected to be back at full strength for spring training. However, he battled right forearm inflammation in camp, which ended any hope he had of winning a back-end rotation role with the big club. The Rockies still plan to have Lambert build up for starting duties during his rehab assignment, but he could be optioned to Albuquerque once his rehab window comes to a close.
