Strikes out 10 in loss
Messick (9-8) took the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Impact
Messick suffered a tough-luck loss, throwing 72 of 98 pitches for strikes while piling up 19 whiffs. The southpaw has now yielded two earned runs or fewer in eight straight outings, but he only has two wins to show for it. He'll carry a stellar 2.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 152:40 K:BB across 149 innings this season into a road matchup with the Angels next week.

Falls to Detroit
Messick (9-7) took the loss Thursday against the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
Impact
Messick was sharp Thursday, holding Detroit to one run through his first five innings, though he'd give up a solo homer to Eduardo Valencia in the sixth as the Guardians failed to generate anything on offense in an eventual 3-0 defeat. Messick has held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts, posting a 1.96 ERA in that span (41.1 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 2.59 through 24 starts (142.1 innings) this season with a 1.03 WHIP and 142:40 K:BB. Messick currently lines up to face the Giants at home his next time out.

Throws seven sharp innings
Messick (9-6) picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings against the White Sox on Friday.
Impact
Messick recorded his sixth straight start of allowing two or fewer earned runs Friday against the White Sox. The left-hander made just two mistakes, allowing solo home runs to Braden Montgomery and Munetaka Murakami. The 25-year-old logged his most strikeouts in a game since June 23, when he recorded 10 strikeouts also against the White Sox. Over 23 starts this year, Messick has posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 136:38 K:BB in 136.2 innings. The southpaw is slated to make his next start Thursday against the TIgers.

Chased early in no-decision
Messick did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 12-8 loss to the Diamnondbacks, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Impact
Messick didn't allow a run until the fifth inning, but he mostly labored and departed at 91 pitches without completing the frame. Remarkably, it marked the first time in 22 turns that the southpaw was unable to complete five innings, though he still extended his streak of starts yielding exactly one earned run to five straight. He'll take a 2.57 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 128:37 K:BB across 129.2 frames this season into a road matchup with the White Sox next weekend.

Stuck with hard-luck loss
Messick (8-6) took the loss Sunday against the Rays, allowing a run on six hits and no walks over 7.2 innings. He struck out six.
Impact
Messick was excellent Sunday, holding the Rays to a lone run on a Cedric Mullins squeeze bunt, though this proved enough to stick the left-hander with the loss as the Guardians were stymied by Drew Rasmussen in an eventual 1-0 defeat. Messick has held opponents to a lone earned run in each of his last four starts, lowering his ERA to 2.59 with a 1.04 WHIP and 122:36 K:BB across 21 outings (125.1 innings) this season. He's currently slated to face the Diamondbacks at home his next time out.

Impact
The southpaw was lifted after 88 pitches (59 strikes) with one on in the sixth inning and the game tied 2-2, missing out on both his eighth quality start of the season and his ninth win when Cleveland scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Messick has given up just one earned run in three straight outings, and on the campaign he sports a 2.68 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 116:36 K:BB through 117.2 innings in his first full season as part of the big-league rotation. He lines up to make his next start on the road this weekend in Tampa Bay.
