Mason Miller - Dealing with elbow tightness Miller is headed back to the Bay Area to be evaluated after feeling tightness in his right elbow following Sunday's start against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said the initial suspicion is Miller is dealing with a flexor muscle issue and that "we're hoping for the best." A stint on the injured list, and in all likelihood a lengthy one, seems likely, but more will be known once Miller is examined. The right-hander has posted a 3.38 ERA and 22:7 K:BB over 21.1 frames covering his first four major-league-starts. Miller has already more than doubled his innings total as a pro this season, having missed ample time due to injury.

Drew Waters - Cleared for rehab assignment Waters (oblique/back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Impact Waters had initially been in line to start a rehab assignment last week but was held up when his back tightened up. He's apparently over that now and will look to shake off some rust as he sees his first game action since suffering an oblique strain back in late February. Given the long layoff, Waters figures to need a good number of plate appearances with Omaha before he's activated.

Impact Clarke missed the first two and a half weeks of the minor-league season while recovering from a left shoulder strain, but he hasn't had any trouble tapping into power upon being activated from the IL. For all his success thus far, the 23-year-old outfielder is striking out at a 30.2 percent clip, so expect his production to drop off considerably once his .500 BABIP regresses to a normal level.

JJ Bleday - Rests against lefty Bleday is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Impact With the Athletics opposing a southpaw (Nestor Cortes) for the second consecutive day, the lefty-hitting Bleday will once again take a seat. Oakland will roll out an outfield of Brent Rooker, Esteury Ruiz and Ramon Laureano from left to right in the series opener.
