INJURIES

Throws eighth inning Ramirez struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning to record the hold in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Pirates.
Impact Ramirez has entered games in the eighth inning in seven of his last eight appearances, including three that ended up as saves for closer Joakim Soria. If the Diamondbacks eventually flip Soria to a contender, presumably the 31-year-old Ramirez would be in line for save opportunities, unless he's dealt as well. Since arriving in Arizona, Ramirez has a 2.77 ERA with six holds over 13 innings.

Sets up for closer Ramirez struck out three over a scoreless eighth inning and recorded a hold in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Cubs.
Impact Ramirez was manager Torey Lovullo's choice with Arizona up 2-1 after seven innings, but he had issues. Chicago's Javier Baez struck out on a wild pitch and reached first base with two outs. Ramirez then hit Kris Bryant before striking out Patrick Wisdom to end the threat. Closer Joakim Soria blew up in the ninth, turning a potential win into a loss. Ramirez has a 3.27 ERA, 13 strikeouts and four holds over 11 innings since Arizona selected his contract from Triple-A Reno.
JULY 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Works eighth inning in win Ramirez walked one and struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning in Monday's 5-1 win over the Brewers.
Impact Ramirez's contract was selected late last week, and the reliever has authored three consecutive scoreless outings for the Diamondbacks. Used mostly has a mop-up reliever during this career, Ramirez has worked high-leverage spots for manager Torey Lovullo, who has a history with the right-hander when both were with the Red Sox in 2015. In addition to throwing Monday's eighth inning, Ramirez pitched the seventh inning of a scoreless game last Friday and the ninth inning of a one-run game the following day.

Contract selected by Arizona Ramirez's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Impact Ramirez signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks in late May, and he posted an 8.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in nine innings across eight relief appearances for Triple-A Reno. The right-hander should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever in the majors after right-hander Keury Mella was designated for assignment Friday.
JUNE 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Joining Arizona on MiLB deal Ramirez agreed Thursday with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league contract, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
Impact The Arizona bullpen is lacking in both experienced and quality options at the big-league level, so Ramirez may not have to wait long for a call-up if he impresses early on at Triple-A Reno. The 31-year-old right-hander, who elected free agency earlier this week after the Angels designated him for assignment, owns a 4.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 186 career relief appearances in the majors.

Elects free agency Ramirez cleared waivers and elected free agency Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Impact The 31-year-old was designated for assignment over the weekend and will hit free agency rather than report to the minors. Ramirez made two appearances for the Angels, allowing two earned runs on five hits with one walk and zero strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
MAY 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Angels on Sunday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact The Angels acquired Hunter Strickland from the Rays and bumped Ramirez a day later to make room on the roster. Traded to the Reds in the offseason in the Raisel Iglesias deal, Ramirez was cut loose by Cincinnati and returned to Anaheim. He allowed two runs on four hits -- including a homer -- over three innings against the Red Sox on Saturday.
MAY 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Contract selected Ramirez's contract was selected by the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact Ramirez was sent to the Reds in the Raisel Iglesias trade over the winter but was later released and returned to the Angels on a minor-league deal. The 31-year-old could be a useful member of the team's bullpen, as he owns a 3.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over the last two seasons.
MAY 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Ramping up at alternate site Ramirez has been throwing at the Angels' alternate training site and could be ready to contribute to the big club if called upon, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ramirez spent most of spring training with the Reds before being released and then picked up by the Angels. He didn't make the big-league roster out of camp, but he has been with the organization (outside of his brief time with Cincinnati) since 2017, so there isn't much mystery about how he could slot into the big-league bullpen. Ramirez is likely close to the front of the line to be called up to the majors if a spot opens up for a reliever.
APRIL 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Signs with Angels Ramirez signed a contract with the Angels on Sunday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact Ramirez was let go by Cincinnati on Saturday but will rejoin his former team just one day later. The terms of the deal aren't yet clear, but the agreement isn't expected to be a major-league contract, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. The right-hander will have to clear intake protocols before joining the club. Although Ramirez will likely begin the year in the minors, he could return to the major-league bullpen at some point after posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 21 relief innings with the team last year.
MARCH 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Released by Cincinnati Ramirez was released by the Reds on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ramirez was acquired by the Reds in the Raisel Iglesias trade in December, but the right-hander was unable to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Ramirez gave up six runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four in six innings this spring and will now search for a role with another club ahead of the regular season.

Impact Ramirez had struggled with those pitches in his first two spring training games, allowing four runs in two innings. "It's pretty much tuning up for the year," Ramirez said. "During these times, the first couple outings are all about feel, especially with me. I'm pretty erratic with my mechanics, so it takes me a little bit to really get dialed in again."

Reaches deal with Cincy Ramirez signed a one-year, $1.175 million deal with the Reds on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact The 31-year-old was acquired from the Angels in the Raisel Iglesias trade in December, and he's now officially under contract for 2021. Ramirez had a 3.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB over 21 innings during the 2020 campaign and could be in the mix at closer with Cincinnati looking for Iglesias' replacement.

DECEMBER 7, 2020 • MLB.COM
Shipped to Cincinnati The Reds acquired Ramirez and a player to be named later or cash from the Angels on Monday in exchange for reliever Raisel Iglesias and cash.
Impact The trade amounts to a cost-cutting measure for the Reds, as Iglesias was due $9.13 million in the final year of his contract in 2021 coming off a bounce-back 2020 campaign (2.74 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB in 23 innings). Ramirez, meanwhile, was serviceable in a setup role for the Angels (3.00 ERA in 21 innings), but an ugly 5.9 K-BB% suggests the ERA wasn't an accurate reflection of his talents. Expect the 30-year-old to slot into a middle-inning role with his new club, as the Reds evaluate other options to replace Iglesias as their closer.
DECEMBER 7, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win in relief Ramirez (1-0) earned the win in relief Saturday against Houston in Game 2 of the doubleheader. He tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one hit with no walks and no strikeouts.
Impact Ramirez was coming off a woeful appearance against the Padres -- allowing two runs in one-third of an inning -- but he bounced back admirably here. Ramirez can have an off night from time to time, but he has allowed runs in just three of his last 10 appearances, posting a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings across that stretch.
