Impact Pittsburgh optioned infielder Alika Williams to Triple-A to clear a spot on the active roster for Yorke, who could be in store for a near-everyday role while getting his first taste of the big leagues over the final two weeks of the season. After being acquired from the Red Sox at the trade deadline, Yorke slashed .359/.438/.516 with two home runs and eight stolen bases in 176 plate appearances at Indianapolis to earn his way to the majors. Yorke has spent most of his minor-league career at second base, but he also picked up starts at shortstop and third base along with all three outfield spots this season and could end up filling a super-utility role for the Pirates.

Impact Acquired from the Red Sox for Quinn Priester at the trade deadline, Yorke has slashed .303/.385/.449 with 12 home runs and 21 stolen bases between the Double- and Triple-A level this season. The 22-year-old is primarily a second baseman, but he also has a bit of experience at third base, shortstop and all three outfield spots. Yorke should receive regular playing time down the stretch for the Pirates.

Moved to Pittsburgh The Pirates acquired Yorke from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for right-hander Quinn Priester, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Though Yorke was regarded as one of the Red Sox's top position prospects, he had lost some sheen over the past couple of years while his performance had dipped between stops at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland. Yorke had gotten off to an underwhelming start to the current season at Portland, but he had started to turn some heads again after getting a promotion in early June to Triple-A Worcester, where he posted a .317/.414/.497 slash line with six home runs and six steals in 169 plate appearances while splitting time between second base and left field. Despite showing improvement with the bat at Triple-A, Yorke's long-term path to playing time in Boston was still somewhat blocked, but he should have a greater opportunity to eventually settle into an everyday role with a Pittsburgh organization that's comparatively lacking in established bats at the big-league level. Look for Yorke to report to Triple-A Indianapolis initially, but it wouldn't be surprising if he receive his first big-league call-up later in 2024.

Slated for work in outfield The Red Sox will have Yorke work into outfield drills during spring training in an attempt to increase his versatility, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Impact Yorke is in big-league camp as a non-roster player, and while he doesn't have a realistic chance to make the team, he will get a chance to make an impression while also showing what he can do in the outfield. He has played second base exclusively so far in the minor leagues. A first-round pick in 2020, Yorke spent last season at Double-A Portland, slashing .268/.350/.435 with 13 homers and 18 steals across 506 plate appearances.

Rolling along at Double-A Yorke is slashing .275/.361/.453 with nine home runs, six steals and a 25 percent strikeout rate in 69 games with Double-A Portland.

Impact He has been 22 percent better than league average as one of the younger hitters at Double-A. Yorke, who won't turn 22 until Opening Day of next year, has played exclusively at second base for the Sea Dogs aside from 10 starts at designated hitter. He isn't expected to add much defensive value, so Yorke needs to sustain a high level of offensive production as he inches closer to the big leagues.
