Reinstated off IL
Yorke (shoulder) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.
Impact
Yorke was placed on the injured list April 6 due to right shoulder soreness, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to return on a minimum stint on the IL. In the four games prior to his injury, Yorke went 5-for-15 with two walks, three doubles and one RBI.

Shelved at Triple-A
Triple-A Indianapolis placed Yorke on its 7-day injured list Friday due to right shoulder soreness, Dan Zagrilli of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports.
Impact
According to Pirates general manager Ben Cherington, the sore shoulder has been an issue for Yorke since late in spring training, and the organization wasn't keen on having him continuing playing while he was compromised. The shoulder issue had yet to cause a decline in his production early on in the season at Indianapolis, as Yorke went 5-for-15 with three doubles, two walks, two runs and one RBI through four games. Cherington anticipates Yorke being in line for a brief stay on the shelf.

Doesn't crack Opening Day roster
Yorke was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Yorke looked to have a good chance to crack the Opening Day roster, particularly with Spencer Horwitz (wrist) sidelined. However, he collected only seven hits -- two of which went for extra bases -- across 34 at-bats in Grapefruit League action and will begin the season in the minors. Yorke should be in consideration for a promotion in the case of an injury or poor performance to a regular in Pittsburgh's lineup, so there's still a chance he can make an impact this season.

Chance to break camp with team
Yorke remains in the mix for a roster spot to begin the regular season, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Yorke has gotten a lot of run this spring and collected seven hits across 30 Grapefruit League at-bats. He has only two extra-base hits with 10 strikeouts, but he has also drawn six walks. With Spencer Horwitz (wrist) likely to begin the regular season on the injured list, one of Yorke, Billy Cooke or DJ Stewart is likely to break camp with the team and earn at least some playing time at first base.

Impact
Yorke has put up excellent numbers at most of his minor-league stops, but he has an uncertain defensive home. Nick Gonzales is the favorite to start at second base, while the addition of Tommy Pham likely shuts the door on Yorke's potential to play regularly in the outfield. However, Horwitz's injury opens up potential playing time at first base, though there are several other options at the position.

Defensive concerns in outfield
Yorke will have to prove he can handle right field defensively to earn the starting role to begin the regular season, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The Pirates have an unresolved playing time situation in right field with Billy Cook and Joshua Palacios the other two primary options in addition to Yorke. Yorke could have the best bat after posting a 127 wRC+ at Triple-A last season, though he's played only four games in right field and 41 total in the outfield during his time as a pro. He's certainly in contention for regular at-bats in right field, but his ability with the glove will be key to monitor during spring training.

Pops second career homer
Yorke went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Yankees.
Impact
Yorke has started 10 of 12 games since making his big-league debut, and he popped his second career home run Saturday. Yorke also has two steals, though his 28.9 percent strikeout rate is a concern. He should be in consideration for a roster spot to begin the 2025 campaign.

Receiving Thursday off
Yorke is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.
Impact
He will give up his spot in the Pittsburgh infield to Liover Peguero, who draws a second straight start at shortstop while Nick Gonzales serves as the Pirates' second baseman. Yorke had been included in the lineup in eight of the last nine games while picking up starts at second base, third base, right field and left field and batting .259 with a home run and two stolen bases.

Solidifying spot in everyday lineup
Yorke will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Impact
After making each of his last three starts at second base, Yorke will shift to the outfield Wednesday while normal right fielder Bryan De La Cruz gets a day off. Yorke has now picked up eight starts in the Pirates' last nine games and has produced a .280/.296/.400 slash line with one home run and two steals since being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sept. 16. He should be in store for near-everyday playing time in the final week of the season.

Tallies first run, RBI
Yorke went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.
Impact
Yorke reached on an infield single in his second trip to the plate before stealing second, though he was left stranded. He then recorded a clutch knock with two outs in the sixth and eventually came home on a three-run shot from Billy Cook as Pittsburgh took a 5-4 lead. The second baseman has now recorded multiple hits in back-to-back contests after going 0-for-3 in his Pirates debut. His RBI and run scored on Wednesday also marked the firsts of his MLB career.

Three hits in loss
Yorke went 3-for-4 in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Cardinals.
Impact
Yorke went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in his major-league debut Monday. It didn't take him long to check off another first, as he had three singles in his second career game. The contact-oriented infielder should continue to get steady playing time down the stretch as the Pirates evaluate his major-league readiness for 2025. Yorke has started both of his big-league contests at second base, which could lead to Nick Gonzales being forced to share shortstop with Isiah Kiner-Falefa to finish the year.

Call-up official, will start Monday
The Pirates selected Yorke's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of Monday's game against the Cardinals. He'll start at second base and bat seventh in the series opener.
Impact
Pittsburgh optioned infielder Alika Williams to Triple-A to clear a spot on the active roster for Yorke, who could be in store for a near-everyday role while getting his first taste of the big leagues over the final two weeks of the season. After being acquired from the Red Sox at the trade deadline, Yorke slashed .359/.438/.516 with two home runs and eight stolen bases in 176 plate appearances at Indianapolis to earn his way to the majors. Yorke has spent most of his minor-league career at second base, but he also picked up starts at shortstop and third base along with all three outfield spots this season and could end up filling a super-utility role for the Pirates.

Headed to big leagues
The Pirates selected Yorke's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Acquired from the Red Sox for Quinn Priester at the trade deadline, Yorke has slashed .303/.385/.449 with 12 home runs and 21 stolen bases between the Double- and Triple-A level this season. The 22-year-old is primarily a second baseman, but he also has a bit of experience at third base, shortstop and all three outfield spots. Yorke should receive regular playing time down the stretch for the Pirates.

ROTOWIRE
Moved to Pittsburgh
The Pirates acquired Yorke from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for right-hander Quinn Priester, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Though Yorke was regarded as one of the Red Sox's top position prospects, he had lost some sheen over the past couple of years while his performance had dipped between stops at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland. Yorke had gotten off to an underwhelming start to the current season at Portland, but he had started to turn some heads again after getting a promotion in early June to Triple-A Worcester, where he posted a .317/.414/.497 slash line with six home runs and six steals in 169 plate appearances while splitting time between second base and left field. Despite showing improvement with the bat at Triple-A, Yorke's long-term path to playing time in Boston was still somewhat blocked, but he should have a greater opportunity to eventually settle into an everyday role with a Pittsburgh organization that's comparatively lacking in established bats at the big-league level. Look for Yorke to report to Triple-A Indianapolis initially, but it wouldn't be surprising if he receive his first big-league call-up later in 2024.

ROTOWIRE
Slated for work in outfield
The Red Sox will have Yorke work into outfield drills during spring training in an attempt to increase his versatility, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
Yorke is in big-league camp as a non-roster player, and while he doesn't have a realistic chance to make the team, he will get a chance to make an impression while also showing what he can do in the outfield. He has played second base exclusively so far in the minor leagues. A first-round pick in 2020, Yorke spent last season at Double-A Portland, slashing .268/.350/.435 with 13 homers and 18 steals across 506 plate appearances.

•
ROTOWIRE
Rolling along at Double-A
Yorke is slashing .275/.361/.453 with nine home runs, six steals and a 25 percent strikeout rate in 69 games with Double-A Portland.
Impact
He has been 22 percent better than league average as one of the younger hitters at Double-A. Yorke, who won't turn 22 until Opening Day of next year, has played exclusively at second base for the Sea Dogs aside from 10 starts at designated hitter. He isn't expected to add much defensive value, so Yorke needs to sustain a high level of offensive production as he inches closer to the big leagues.
