Impact Sogard ignited a late rally in the bottom of the ninth inning with a leadoff triple and scored Boston's fifth run but the comeback attempt stalled there. He made a seventh consecutive start with this one coming at second base. Marcelo Mayer, who has been the team's primary starter at the keystone, was moved to shortstop, which will be his primary position while Trevor Story (abdomen) is out after undergoing surgery. Sogard has been a spark since being called up and is slashing .304/.429/.435 over seven contests.

Earning more work at 3B Sogard will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Royals.
Impact Sogard will remain in the lineup for the fourth game in a row and will be making his third start at third base during that stretch. All three of Sogard's starts at the hot corner have come against right-handed pitching, and the 28-year-old may have at least temporarily overtaken the struggling Caleb Durbin as Boston's preferred option at the position. Sogard has three hits in 11 at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, so he has more work to do before cementing himself as an everyday player for a more extended stretch of action.

Recalled from Worcester The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact Sogard will come up from Triple-A to replenish Boston's infield depth following Trevor Story's (groin) move to the injured list. Sogard has spent the entire 2026 campaign in the minors up to this point, slashing .269/.417/.454 with five homers, 23 RBI, 27 runs scored and four steals across 168 plate appearances.
