Outdueled by Skubal on Saturday
Pivetta (5-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings as the Red Sox were downed 2-1 by the Tigers. He struck out six.
Impact
The right-hander kept Boston in the game with his eighth quality start of the season, but Pivetta was matched up against AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and came out on the losing end. Most encouragingly, Pivetta didn't serve up a homer after being taken deep 10 times in his five prior outings, a stretch in which he'd stumbled to a 7.50 ERA. He'll look to stay on track in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the woeful White Sox.

Taking hill for suspended game
Pivetta is scheduled to pitch Monday when the Red Sox resume a game with the Blue Jays that was suspended in the second inning back on June 26, Chris Cotillo MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Though the game will be officially completed Monday, Pivetta will technically be making his first relief appearance of the season, as Kutter Crawford picked up the start June 26 and recorded 1.1 innings before the contest was suspended due to inclement weather. Pivetta's official game log will attribute any statistics from the suspended game as having been accrued June 26. After pitching in the suspended game, Pivetta will line up to make his next start in Detroit during the upcoming weekend.

Gives up five runs Tuesday
Pivetta allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Tuesday.
Impact
Houston got to him early with three runs in the first inning, and Yainer Diaz tied the game at 5-5 with a solo shot in the fifth. Pivetta has allowed multiple home runs in five straight starts, though he's managed to take just two losses in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.70 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 125:27 K:BB through 105.1 innings over 20 starts. Pivetta's next start is projected to be at home versus the Blue Jays.

Allows two homers in loss
Pivetta (5-8) took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings.
Impact
Pivetta kept the Orioles off the scoreboard over the first three innings before surrendering a two-run homer to Gunnar Henderson in the fourth and then a leadoff shot to Cedric Mullins to open the fifth. It marked the fourth consecutive start in which the right-hander has coughed up two long balls and he's also given up at least three runs in three of his last four outings. Pivetta has lost four of his last five decisions (spanning eight starts). However, he's also racked up six or more strikeouts in six of his last seven starts.

Rejoining rotation Thursday
Pivetta (rest) is scheduled to make his next start Thursday in Baltimore, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Pivetta has stayed healthy since returning from a month-long stay on the injured list May 8, but the Red Sox opted to skip his turn in the rotation this past week to provide him with some extra rest after he had delivered a 7.71 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over his last three starts. After having made his last start Aug. 4, Pivetta will be taking the hill on 10 days' rest when he returns to the mound Thursday.

Being skipped in rotation
Pivetta will have his next start skipped and won't pitch this weekend against the Astros as previously scheduled, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
The right-hander isn't dealing with an injury, but he's failed to cover five frames in two of his past three starts and has given up 13 runs (12 earned) in those three outings. Pivetta averaged 91.9 mph with his fastball during his previous start Sunday at Texas, which is down a couple ticks from his season average of 94.1 mph. The 31-year-old could be re-inserted into the rotation next week for a rematch versus the Rangers.

Can't finish five innings
Pivetta allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out five over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Sunday.
Impact
Pivetta wasn't all that sharp, throwing 44 of 70 pitches for strikes in this short outing. It was the second time in his last three starts that he's failed to complete five frames, though his 2.2-inning start at Coors Field was likely due to poor performance. He's also allowed multiple home runs in each of his last three outings, including solo shots by Corey Seager and Josh Jung in Sunday's contest. For the season, Pivetta has a 4.44 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 117:23 K:BB through 95.1 innings over 18 starts. His next outing is projected to be at home versus the Astros.
