Throwing program moved to complex in Arizona Pivetta (forearm) has continued to play catch and build up, but his throwing program has been moved to the Padres' complex in Peoria, Arizona, MLB.com reports.
Impact Pivetta hasn't pitched for the Padres since April 12, but it looked like he was on the way back when he was penciled in for a minor-league rehab start Aug. 4. However, the veteran hurler ended up throwing just 14 pitches for Single-A Lake Elsinore in that outing and hasn't made another game appearance since. While it's at least promising that Pivetta hasn't been shut down from throwing, the move to the team's training complex may indicate that the right-hander isn't going to resume a rehab assignment in the near future. As such, it remains up in the air whether he'll be able to pitch again for the big-league club before the end of the regular season.

Throws off mound Monday Pivetta (forearm) threw off a mound Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact It's not clear as to how many pitches Pivetta threw during Monday's throwing session, but it's a good sign that he was able to get back on the mound after exiting his last rehab appearance Tuesday due to tightness in his right elbow. He'll presumably be re-evaluated over the course of the next few days to determine the next step in his rehab.
AUGUST 10 • ROTOWIRE
Plays catch Sunday Pivetta (forearm) played catch at PetCo Park on Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Impact Pivetta is in a holding pattern in terms of resuming a rehab stint, but he's still been able to do some throwing. The right-hander exited a rehab start -- his first since landing on the injured list April 14 due to a right flexor strain -- with Triple-A El Paso on Aug. 4 after throwing just 14 pitches, though he did get in some more throws in the bullpen afterward. According to Cassavell, the Padres have "tentative plans" for Pivetta to throw a bullpen session but haven't revealed a date for that to take place.

Rehab put on hold The Padres have decided to put Pivetta's (forearm) rehab progression on pause "for a couple extra days" after he walked off the mound amidst an appearance with Single-A Lake Elsino...
Impact Pivetta tossed just 14 pitches during the rehab appearance, his first game action since he was placed on the injured list with a right flexor strain in mid-April. The veteran hurler reportedly felt "tightness" in his elbow Tuesday, prompting his early exit, though Pivetta did throw 20-to-30 additional pitches in the bullpen following his departure. The Padres have expressed optimism that Pivetta isn't dealing with a major setback, but he didn't throw his scheduled bullpen Thursday and won't make his next scheduled rehab appearance. Manager Craig Stammen suggested Thursday that Pivetta may not be shut down for long, saying, "We'll probably give him a couple extra days to figure out what is going on and [whether] we need to pull him back a little bit or if we can just keep going."

Impact Pivetta abruptly left the mound in the middle of an at-bat in the fourth inning, and it's unclear if the discomfort was in his forearm. Despite leaving the mound, Pivetta went to the bullpen and "let it loose" without issue, according to Acee. It sounds like the right-hander has avoided a significant setback in his return from a forearm strain, but the Padres figure to take another look at Pivetta's forearm before he makes another rehab start.
