Hit hard in loss to Detroit
Martinez (5-2) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings as the Rays were downed 7-2 by the Tigers. He struck out one.
Impact
In his shortest outing of 2026, Martinez served up a solo shot to Jake Rogers in the second inning and a three-run blast to Dillon Dingler in the fourth before getting the hook after 58 pitches (40 strikes). It's the first time in 12 starts this season that Martinez has been taken deep multiple times and the first time he's been tagged for more than two runs, and the loss snaps a five-decision winning streak for the 35-year-old righty. Martinez will take a 2.29 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 42:13 K:BB through 70.2 innings into his next start, which is set to come at home early next week against the Red Sox.

Another quality start
Martinez (5-1) earned the win against the Angels on Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five across seven innings. He did not issue a walk.
Impact
Martinez allowed at least two baserunners in three of the first five innings of his start. However, he minimized the damage to two runs and stretched his start through the seventh inning to secure his seventh quality start of the season, which is tied for fourth most in the American League. Martinez sits at a 1.62 ERA over 66.2 innings, which is second best in the majors among qualified starters this season, only behind Cam Schlittler (1.50). Martinez's next start is slated for next week at home against the Tigers.

Strong again in no-decision
Martinez did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-2 win over the Yankees, allowing one run on nine hits and one walk with one strikeout over six innings.
Impact
Martinez surrendered a solo homer in the fifth inning but otherwise kept the Yankees at bay despite allowing 11 hard-hit balls. It continued a fantastic run for the veteran, who has now yielded two earned runs or fewer in each of his 10 outings this season while logging six quality starts. He'll carry a sparkling 1.51 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB across 59.2 innings into a road matchup against the Orioles next week.

Excellent campaign continues
Martinez didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Marlins, allowing no runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out four.
Impact
The 35-year-old right-hander has been a model of consistency for the Rays to begin the season, giving up two earned runs or fewer in each of his first nine starts. Martinez, a former reliever, has touched the 90-pitch threshold on just one occasion in 2026, but he's still managed to work into the sixth inning all but two of his outings on the year. Martinez has a tidy 1.51 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB over 53.2 frames, but he's next lined up for a tough test against the division-rival Yankees.

Keeps rolling
Martinez (4-1) earned the win Sunday over the Red Sox, allowing a run on seven hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
Impact
Martinez was sharp again Sunday, as he held the Red Sox scoreless until the sixth inning. The veteran right-hander still hasn't allowed more than two runs in a start this season and he's held opponents to just three runs over 25.2 innings in his last four outings. Martinez's ERA is down to 1.70 through eight starts (47.2 innings) this season with a 1.06 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB. He's tentatively lined up to face the Marlins at home his next time out.
