Carlos Santana - Slugs homer in loss Santana went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers.
Impact Santana has gone just 3-for-16 over his last five games, but all three of those hits have been homers. He tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth inning Sunday, though the Twins would fall in the 10th. Santana is up to a .241/.330/.432 slash line with 18 homers, 55 RBI, 48 runs scored, 22 doubles and four stolen bases through 115 contests in a near-everyday role this year.

Ryan Jeffers - Does damage early Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers.
Impact Jeffers made an impact early in the contest, hitting a two-run homer in the first inning and an RBI single in the third. The catcher has hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) with three homers and five RBI in that span. That constitutes a warm spell for Jeffers, and it's come at a good time, as fellow catcher Christian Vazquez entered Sunday on an eight-game hitting streak before snapping it with a strikeout as a pinch hitter. The Twins continues to evenly split the playing time for their catchers. Jeffers has offered more power with 19 homers, 18 doubles and a .464 slugging percentage while batting .231 with 57 RBI, 45 runs scored and three stolen bases over 94 contests this season.

Pablo López - Strong start goes to waste Lopez allowed six hits and three walks while striking out three over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Sunday.
Impact Lopez wasn't dominant, but he was good enough for the first six innings. He threw 71 of 107 pitches for strikes, but his strong outing went to waste when Jorge Alcala gave up five runs in the seventh inning. This was Lopez's first scoreless outing since June 23, but he's managed to earn a quality start in five of his last six appearances. For the year, he has a 4.47 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 152:32 K:BB through 141 innings over 25 starts. Lopez is projected to make his next start at home versus the Cardinals.

Zebby Matthews - Sticking around in rotation Matthews is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Padres at Petco Park.
Impact The Twins called up both Matthews and Louie Varland from Triple-A St. Paul last week to make starts, but after Varland was sent back to the minors following his outing, Matthews will stick around as the fifth member of the big-league rotation. After producing an eye-popping 114:7 K:BB in 97 innings across three stops in the minors this season prior to his call-up, Matthews continued to exhibit sharp control in his MLB debut last Tuesday, striking out five and giving up two earned runs on five hits and no walks over five innings en route to notching a win over the Royals. Matthews tentatively lines up for two starts during the upcoming week, with his second turn set to come next Sunday at home versus the Cardinals.

Impact Minnesota carried a three-run lead into the ninth inning, and manager Rocco Baldelli elected to call upon Sands with primary closer Jhoan Duran having pitched on three consecutive days. The decision proved to be the right one, as Sands cruised to a save by retiring the side in order on just nine pitches. The right-hander has registered a career-high four saves on the campaign, though his opportunities in that regard are highly unpredictable with Duran having a firm grasp on the closer role and Griffin Jax typically second in line with eight saves on the season.
