Impact Caratini went back-to-back with Royce Lewis in the fourth inning to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. After going deep just three times over his first 52 contests of the campaign, Caratini has swatted four home runs across his past 10 games. He's had a standout June, batting .355 with five homers, 13 RBI, 12 runs and a 9:11 BB:K over 19 contests. Ryan Jeffers (hand) could return to action at some point in July, but Caratini may have done enough in Jeffers' absence to retain more than a typical backup's workload.

Impact Minnesota held a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Houston rallied off reliever Travis Adams for a pair of runs. Twins manager Derek Shelton then turned to Gomez, who served up a solo homer to Cam Smith before getting Joey Loperfido on a game-ending groundout. It wasn't the cleanest outing by Gomez, but he recorded his sixth save (in six chances) so far in June to further strengthen his grasp on Minnesota's closer role. The right-hander gave up 12 earned runs across his first 15.1 frames this season, but he's been outstanding since then, posting a 1.50 ERA with a 23:8 K:BB across 24 innings spanning his past 26 appearances.

Zebby Matthews - Sparkles in victory Matthews (4-5) earned the win over Houston on Monday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings.

Impact Matthews gave up just one extra-base hit Monday, a fifth-inning solo homer by Cam Smith. That was also the only run the righty-handed hurler allowed en route to his third straight quality start. Matthews matched his season high with seven punchouts and needed a modest 89 pitches (59 strikes) to cover seven frames, tying his longest outing of the campaign. He's had two seven-run clunkers this season but has given up three or fewer runs in each of his other seven starts, putting him at a decent 4.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB through 56.1 innings overall.
