INJURIES

Ejected Thursday Mikolas was ejected from Thursday's game against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact Mikolas threw at Ian Happ on consecutive pitches after Happ hit Willson Contreras in the head on his backswing. The second offering hit Happ, and Mikolas was ultimately tossed from the game. Because Mikolas completed 0.2 innings and threw only 14 pitches, he could be an option to start on short rest.

Allows season-high 11 hits Mikolas did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing five runs on 11 hits and one walk over five innings against the Cubs. He struck out three.
Impact Mikolas struggled with his command all afternoon, needing 102 pitches to get through five innings while surrendering a season-high 11 hits. It marked the seventh time this season that the right-hander has allowed at least five runs in a start and he's now recorded three or fewer strikeouts in three straight. Mikolas will look to turn things around when the Cardinals take on these same Cubs next weekend in St. Louis.

Tosses quality start, nabs win Mikolas (6-5) earned the win over Miami on Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three batters over six innings. He did not issue any walks.
Impact Mikolas was coming off a start against Washington just three days earlier during which he tossed only 34 pitches in a game that was suspended due to inclement weather. Because of the brief nature of that outing, the right-hander was able to take the mound again Monday on very short rest, and he handled a full workload with 92 pitches across six frames. Mikolas gave up a pair of homers but managed to hold the Marlins to just three runs and notch his eighth quality start of the campaign. The veteran hurler hasn't quite matched his strong numbers from last season, but he's been a mostly steady arm for St. Louis with a 4.14 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 83:24 K:BB over a team-high 121.2 innings.

Could make next start Monday Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Mikolas could be an option to start Monday's series opener versus the Marlins after the right-hander tossed only 34 pitches in his start Friday...
Impact Before rain descended on Busch Stadium, Mikolas was on his way to a strong start, as he struck out two over three perfect innings. Fantasy managers who deployed Mikolas in weekly lineups should see his statistics from Friday show up once the suspended game is completed Saturday, but the right-hander won't be able to qualify for the win even though the Cardinals held a 1-0 lead at the time play was suspended. Mikolas' workload from Friday will also take him out of the mix for pitching again this weekend, but he looks like he'll be ready to go on three days' rest Monday if the Cardinals elect to go that route.
JULY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Blanks ChiSox for fifth win Mikolas (5-5) picked up the win Saturday, allowing four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the White Sox. He struck out six without walking a batter.
Impact All four hits were singles, and Chicago couldn't even get a runner past second base against the veteran right-hander. Mikolas tossed 71 of 95 pitches for strikes en route to his first win since May 30 and sixth quality start of the year. He'll take a 4.23 ERA and 78:24 K:BB through 112.2 innings into the second half.

Tagged with four runs Mikolas yielded four runs on four hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in Monday's loss to Miami on Monday. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Mikolas looked solid after coughing up two runs in the opening frame until the Marlins tagged him with two more in the seventh inning. He's given up at least four runs in four of his last five appearances, raising his season ERA to 4.51 through 105.2 innings. Mikolas is 0-3 during that stretch and hasn't won since May 30. His next outing is lined up to be on the road against the White Sox this weekend.

Struggles versus Houston Mikolas did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out four.
Impact Mikolas was sharp in his last outing (two earned runs through seven innings) but had a few extra days off due to St. Louis' trip to London, and he struggled to find a rhythm versus Houston. It was the sixth time this season that the right-hander has given up at least five runs, and he currently sports a 4.44 ERA, which would be his highest mark in five seasons with the Cardinals. While Mikolas' ERA could use some work, his 70:22 K:BB is on par with previous seasons and his BABIP (.323) is higher than ever, suggesting he's been the recipient of some bad luck so far this year. Either way, Mikolas spot in the rotation is secure, and he'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled during a four-game set in Miami.

Tough loss against Nats Mikolas (4-5) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings as the Cardinals were blanked 3-0 by the Nationals. He struck out three.
Impact The veteran righty rebounded from a couple shaky outings to deliver his sixth quality start of the season, but he got no help from his offense as he fell to 0-4 in June. After posting a 1.89 ERA in May, Mikolas has stumbled to a 5.63 mark through 24 innings this month, but he'll try to take some momentum into his next outing, which is likely to come at home next week against the Astros.

Ambushed by Mets Mikolas (4-4) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings as the Cardinals fell 6-1 to the Mets. He struck out one.
Impact Only two of the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including a Daniel Vogelbach solo shot in the sixth inning, but the singles came in bunches for the Mets as they scored three runs in the first and two more in the third. Mikolas has been tagged for 11 runs in 12 innings over his last two starts on the heels of a 10-start stretch in which he sported a 2.24 ERA, but he'll look to get back on track when he next takes the mound, which could happen on the road next week against the Nationals.

Allows five runs in loss Mikolas (4-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings against the Reds. He struck out two.
Impact The Reds got to Mikolas early, starting with a two-out single from Tyler Stephenson which led to a three-run second inning for Cincinnati. It was more of the same in the third as the right-hander surrendered a leadoff triple to Matt McLain to start the inning before hitting Jonathan India with a pitch in the next at-bat. Despite giving up five runs early, Mikolas still made it through six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts while taking his second straight loss. He'll look to right the ship next weekend when the Cardinals travel to New York to take on the Mets.

Gives up two runs on 10 hits Mikolas (4-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on 10 hits and zero walks over five innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out two.
Impact Mikolas' 10 hits allowed tied his season-high mark, but he still gave up three or fewer runs and finished at least five innings for a 10th consecutive start. During that stretch, he's posted a modest 45:12 K:BB across 60.1 innings. Despite the lack of strikeouts, Mikolas is clearly in a groove after stumbling out of the gate (16 earned runs over his first three appearances) and will look to stay strong during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled during a three-game weekend set versus the Reds.

Tosses gem against Royals Mikolas (4-1) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three hits and one walk over 8 scoreless innings against the Royals. He struck out 10.
Impact Mikolas turned in his second straight shutout start, moving to 20.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run. The 34-year-old also matched his career-high in strikeouts Tuesday, fanning 10 batters to pick up his fourth win. Through 12 starts (69.2 innings), Mikolas owns a 3.75 ERA and 1.29 WHIP to pair with a 3.87 K/BB. Mikolas' next start is tentatively projected to come against the Rangers, who lead MLB in runs per game with 6.3.
MAY 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Fires seven shutout innings Mikolas (3-1) picked up the win Thursday against the Reds after he allowed five hits and no walks across seven scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Impact The right-hander delivered his third straight quality start and has covered seven frames in each of his past two outings. Mikolas had a horrible beginning to the campaign with 16 runs allowed over his first three outings, but he's rebounded in eight starts since with a 2.47 ERA and 33:11 K:BB over 47.1 innings.
MAY 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tosses seven solid frames Mikolas allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out two batters over seven innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Impact Mikolas dominated Los Angeles in the first five frames, allowing just three hits and no runs. The Dodgers finally got to him when J.D. Martinez hit a game-tying three-run homer in the sixth, but Mikolas bounced back to retire the final six batters he faced. Though he had to settle for a no-decision, this was the right-hander's longest outing of the campaign and his third quality start. He's given up three or fewer runs in each of his seven starts since April 16, posting a 2.90 ERA over 40.1 innings during that span.
MAY 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up second win Mikolas (2-1) allowed one run on four hits and two walks against Boston on Sunday. He earned the win but did not record a strikeout.
Impact After allowing a run in the first inning, Mikolas settled in for five scoreless innings. He got plenty of run support and picked up his first win of the month despite failing to record a strikeout. Over his last four starts, the veteran righty has posted a 2.01 ERA with an 18:7 K:BB. Mikolas' next start is lined up to be against the Dodgers.

Fans seven in short outing Mikolas allowed one run on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings during Monday's win over the Cubs. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Mikolas worked around danger multiple times before the Cubs finally broke through in the fifth inning. An RBI double from Dansby Swanson ended his start. Mikolas punched out a season-high seven batters despite forcing only five swinging strikes. The veteran righty lowered his season ERA to 5.40 with a 41:12 K:BB through 41.2 innings. Mikolas' next start is projected to be in Boston this weekend.
MAY 9, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Turns in decent performance Mikolas did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings against the Angels. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Impact Mikolas continues to turn a corner after a rough start to his season. After coughing up 11 runs over his first 11 innings, he's given up just eight over his last 23. The right-hander is far from an elite option, but he can be counted on for solid outings. The 34-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Cubs on the road in his next appearance.
MAY 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Excels in first victory Mikolas (1-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.1 scoreless innings.
Impact Mikolas began Thursday with an ugly 7.46 season ERA, but he lowered that considerably with a sterling outing against the Giants. The right-hander tossed a campaign-high 6.1 frames and didn't allow any runs while matching a season-best mark with six punchouts. Mikolas will look to build upon this performance moving forward, with his next start tentatively lined up to come at home against the Angels.
APRIL 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Settles for no-decision Mikolas pitched 5.1 innings against Seattle on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact Mikolas gave up a solo homer to Jarred Kelenic in the second inning but settled in from there, at one point retiring 11 of a string of 12 batters. However, he lost a 3-1 lead when Teoscar Hernandez tagged him for a two-run homer in the sixth, which marked the end of Mikolas' outing. The right-hander has yet to get into the win column this season, but he's shown some improvement over his past two starts, giving up five earned runs over 11 frames. Prior to that, Mikolas had surrendered 16 earned runs over his first 14.1 innings of the campaign.

Narrowly misses quality start Mikolas did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walk over 5.2 innings in a 5-4 extra-innings win over the Pirates. He struck...
Impact Mikolas surrendered runs in each of the first two innings before shutting down the Pirates over the next three frames. He found himself in some trouble again in the sixth and was pulled with two outs and runners on first and third, just robbing him of his first quality start of the year. The Pirates tacked on a third run off a fielding error, but Mikolas was able to avoid a loss after the Cardinals came back to win. The seven hits and two earned runs were both season-low marks for the 34-year-old, who has gotten knocked around early on in the campaign. He now sports an 8.10 ERA and a 19:5 K:BB over 20 innings and will look to build off this outing with a tentative start against the Mariners next weekend.
