Error derails start
Minor pitched five innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Yankees. He did not factor...
Impact
Minor pitched two scoreless innings before the wheels fell off in the third frame. After he walked Joey Gallo and surrendered a single to DJ LeMahieu to open the inning, a Jonathan India error allowed Anthony Rizzo to reach base with one out. Minor proceeded to allow five runs to score in the frame, only one which was earned. The left-hander was removed after the following inning. He's produced a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 17 punchouts over 16.1 frames in three starts in July. Wednesday's outing actually lowered Minor's season-long ERA from 6.63 to a still-unimpressive 6.21 over 42 innings in eight starts.

Takes loss after late struggles
Minor (1-6) took the loss during the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Pirates, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out eight.
Impact
Minor cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one baserunner. However, he gave up a leadoff home run to Diego Castillo in the fifth, a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh before being replaced by Luis Cessa. The veteran lefty has finished six innings in four of his last five starts, but he has a 6.07 ERA during that span. Minor's next start is tentatively scheduled for Thursday's matchup in New York.

Gets little help in loss
Minor (1-5) took the loss Friday as the Reds were routed 9-1 by Atlanta, giving up two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
Impact
It was the first quality start of the season for the veteran lefty, but Minor's efforts were wasted as the Reds gave him almost no support. The zero walks were somewhat remarkable given that he tossed only 54 of 94 pitches for strikes, and Minor had walked multiple batters in four of five starts since missing the first two months of the season with a shoulder issue. Despite Friday's performance, he'll carry a 6.82 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next outing, but a run of solid starts could rehabilitate his trade value ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline.

Hit hard in loss
Minor (1-4) allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings, taking the loss versus the Giants on Saturday.
Impact
Minor allowed three home runs, though he was fortunate they were all solo shots. It was still far too much for the Reds to overcome, and the southpaw has only picked up one run through five starts since making his season debut June 3. He's sporting an ugly 7.71 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB through 25.2 innings, and he's already allowed 10 long balls after giving up 26 in 28 starts last year. The 34-year-old will try to keep the ball down in a home start versus Atlanta next week.

Ineffective in loss
Minor (1-3) took the loss Sunday against Milwaukee, allowing four runs on six hits, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out four over six innings.
Impact
Minor did not allow a hit or a run in the first three innings but allowed three of each in the fourth. In the sixth, he loaded the bases and gave up a run on a sacrifice fly. The lefty has allowed seven homers in 20.2 innings and amassed an unsightly 6.97 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his first four starts. His next start will likely be next weekend in San Francisco.

Notches first win
Minor (1-2) earned the win over Arizona on Monday, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five.
Impact
After struggling and getting tagged with a loss in each of his first two starts, Minor pitched well enough Monday to pick up his first win. The veteran southpaw gave up four runs through the first four innings, but he didn't allow the Diamondbacks to get on the scoreboard the rest of the way while pitching into the seventh frame. Minor did give up another home run -- he's now allowed six long balls over 14.2 frames -- but this was the first time that he didn't get tagged for multiple homers in an outing. Despite the victory, Minor isn't a recommended fantasy target.

Struggles in second start
Minor (0-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out four.
Impact
After a shaky first inning, Minor cruised through the second and third before getting into trouble in the fourth. The veteran hit Ketel Marte with a pitch to lead off the inning and proceeded to give up a two-run homer to Christian Walker one batter later. He gave up his second home run of the game to Josh Rojas with one out in the fifth and was pulled in favor of Luis Cessa. Minor missed the start of the season due to a shoulder injury and has returned with poor results, allowing five homers across 8.1 innings during his first two starts of the season. However, given the current status of Cincinnati's pitching staff, there's no indication that the left-hander will be pulled from the rotation.

Stays in rotation
Minor is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks in Cincinnati.
Impact
Though Minor's poor performance in his Reds debut Friday versus Washington may have disqualified him from making a second start if he were a lesser-established arm, Cincinnati acquired the veteran in March specifically so he could eat innings out of the rotation. As a result, Minor will be back on the mound on four days' rest against Arizona despite getting thumped for four earned runs on six hits -- including three long balls -- in four innings against Washington. At least for the moment, Minor likely won't be worthy of consideration outside of NL-only leagues.

Takes loss in 2022 debut
Minor (0-1) took the loss to the Nationals on Friday, allowing five runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- over four innings. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Impact
Minor, making his team debut and 2022 season debut after missing the start of the season with a shoulder injury, was greeted harshly by Washington. Nelson Cruz, Lane Thomas and Juan Soto all took the veteran lefty deep within the first three innings. The Reds brought Minor in to eat innings, and there's no reason he will be removed from the rotation after one bad start, assuming he came out of the start with no lingering soreness in the shoulder.

Reds reinstate veteran lefty Mike Minor from injured list
The Cincinnati Reds have activated veteran left-hander Mike Minor from the 10-day injured list on Friday

Activated prior to start
Minor (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's start against the Nationals.
Impact
Minor dealt with his shoulder injury during spring training and sustained a setback during a rehab assignment in April, but he's been cleared to make his Reds debut during Friday's matchup at home against the Nationals. The 34-year-old made five rehab starts and posted a 6.11 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 17.2 innings. He built up to 79 pitches over six innings during his most recent outing and will be pitching on six days' rest Friday, so it's unlikely that Minor will face significant restrictions against Washington.

Set to make season debut Friday
The Reds will activate Minor (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Nationals in Cincinnati, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer report...
Impact
The 34-year-old southpaw is finally ready to make his Cincinnati debut this week after he was slowed by a shoulder injury in spring training and suffered a setback when he began his minor-league rehab assignment in April. In total, Minor made five rehab starts, most recently building up to six innings and 79 pitches in his final outing for Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Given that workload along with the fact that he'll be joining the Cincinnati rotation on six days' rest, Minor shouldn't face any major restrictions in his season debut.

Looks ready for Cincinnati debut
Minor (shoulder) covered six innings and struck out nine while giving up one run on three hits and no walks in his rehab start Friday for Triple-A Louisville.
Impact
The start was the fourth of Minor's current rehab assignment and his fifth in the minors overall this season, as the veteran lefty has been on the shelf since the spring to his slow recovery from a sore shoulder and a subsequent setback. After building up to six frames and 79 pitches Friday and even turning in an immaculate third inning along the way, Minor looks on track to make his Cincinnati debut next week. The Reds have already confirmed Luis Castillo and Hunter Greene as their starters for their upcoming two-game series in Boston, so Minor looks poised to take the hill on five days' rest Thursday against the Nationals in Cincinnati.

Needs fourth start
Reds manager David Bell said Sunday that Minor (shoulder) will require one more rehab start, with the southpaw expected to return to the mound for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday,...
Impact
The lefty will be making his fourth start since he restarted his assignment earlier this month and his fifth overall after he was initially shut down following a setback coming out of his April 13 outing at Double-A Chattanooga. Though Minor has required more build-up time than expected as he works his way back from a shoulder issue that dates back to late last season while he was with the Royals, he'll still have a spot in the Reds rotation waiting for him once he completes the rehab assignment. If Minor reaches around 5-to-6 innings or 80-to-90 pitches in Thursday's outing, he could come off the 10-day injured list to make his Cincinnati debut as soon as May 31.

Set for one more rehab start
Minor (shoulder) will make another rehab start Friday but could join the team after that, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Minor has been out all season with a shoulder issue but is nearly ready to return. He's made three rehab appearances already but has allowed eight runs (seven earned) in seven frames and has topped out at three innings, so it's no surprise the Reds want to see a more convincing performance before he's activated. If he remains on a standard rest schedule, he could pitch May 25 against the Cubs.

Making rehab start Sunday
Minor (shoulder) is continuing his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Louisville, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The 34-year-old started for Louisville on Tuesday and will take the mound again for the affiliate Sunday. Minor covered three innings during his last outing and should continue ramping up his workload in what could be his final rehab appearance before making his season debut for the Reds.

Heads to Triple-A for rehab
Minor (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Reds manager David Bell said Minor will make two rehab starts at Louisville this week, but the southpaw could be cleared to make his 2022 and Cincinnati debuts by next week if he checks out fine following the pair of minor-league outings. Minor has been on the shelf all season with a shoulder injury that first surfaced in spring training.

Slated for rehab start
Minor (shoulder) is expected to make a rehab start Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
Minor began a rehab assignment in mid-April, but it was paused after he experienced renewed shoulder soreness following a rehab appearance at Double-A Chattanooga. However, he threw a simulated game at High-A Dayton on Wednesday and has been cleared to return to minor-league games. It's not yet clear which affiliate he'll join next week, but he'll likely need to make at least two starts in the minors prior to rejoining the Reds.
