Impact The strikeout total was the only positive for the left-hander versus the Friars, as he gave up two homers and a double while recording only 11 outs on 86 pitches. Minor is off to a rough start in 2020 with a 6.94 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB through 23.1 innings, and he'll hope to get back on track next time out Sunday in Seattle.

Drops third straight Minor (0-3) lost his third straight start Thursday, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings against Oakland.

Impact The game started well for Minor, who retired nine of the first 10 batters with a fastball that clocked in at normal 92-93 MPH. But he hit a wall in the fourth when the Athletics worked him over for four runs. The left-hander managed to get out of the fifth without any more damage, but Minor was done after 83 pitches -- 15 fewer than his previous outing. The coaches became concerned when they saw his fastball drop to 88-89 MPH, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "I had the long inning and then came out for the fifth. I started warming up, and it's been like that the past couple of games, where I felt I hit a wall," Minor said. "Velocity was down. That's when I came back in, and they asked me how I felt. I said, 'I feel fine, I just don't have any gas in me.' I felt fatigued." Minor lugs a 6.89 ERA into his next start Tuesday at home against Seattle.

Experiences diminished velo Minor is experiencing a drop in velocity on all four of his pitches over his first two starts, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Impact Pitching during this odd and shortened season has been a challenge for all starters, and Minor is no different. Minor's fastball dropped from an average of 92.5 to 90.2 MPH over the first two starts. The left-hander said he feels a little "tight" and not as loose as he normally feels when pitching. "I think it's a mobility thing, a stretching-out thing," Minor said. "I'm hoping, over time, a couple of starts, it will start going back up. Sometimes, the balls I throw by guys are being fouled off or are jam-shot singles or hard hits. I think my stuff doesn't do as well with the lower velocity. I still have the ability to get guys out. I just have to pitch better." Minor has stumbled out of the gate in 2020, losing both of his starts and posting a 5.91 ERA.
