Petersen should handle a low-leverage role after contributing a 4.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB in 18 big-league innings last season split between Atlanta and Miami.

Impact The Miami right-hander blew the save when he conceded a two-run homer to Rowdy Tellez in the 10th to knot the game at 3-3. Petersen was assigned the task of converting his first save because the Marlins' saves leader, Calvin Faucher, had appeared in back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday. Petersen is unlikely to receive many future save opportunities and is expected to resume appearing in lower leverage situations. The 31-year-old has pitched to a 4.30 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 14.2 frames with Atlanta and Miami this season.

Shipped to Miami Atlanta traded Petersen to the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Impact Petersen has bounced between Triple-A and MLB this season, giving up three runs in 6.2 innings during his time in the majors. Now changing organizations for the second time this season, he'll report to Triple-A Jacksonville to begin his tenure with the Marlins and take Jesus Tinoco's (forearm) place on the 40-man roster.
