Picks up third save
Fulmer allowed a hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning Monday, earning a save over Seattle.
Impact
After a leadoff single by Mitch Haniger, Fulmer quickly retired the next three batters to finish off the 4-1 win. He's converted all three of his save chances this season and owns a 3.34 ERA through 29.2 innings.

Grabs win in extras
Fulmer (3-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 9-8 extra-inning victory over the Cubs, allowing one unearned run on two hits over two innings. He struck out one.
Impact
The right-hander entered the game in the ninth with the score tied 7-7, but it looked like he would get stuck with the loss when the Cubs pushed their ghost runner home in the top of the 10th. One blown save by Craig Kimbrel later, and Fulmer instead was the winner. The 28-year-old has taken to his new high-leverage bullpen role, securing two wins, two saves and a hold over his last five appearances with a 0.00 ERA and 7:2 K:BB in seven innings.

Michael Fulmer emerges as a stabilizing force in a turbulent Tigers bullpen

Records second save
Fulmer recorded the final two outs of Thursday's win over the Royals to earn the save.
Impact
Gregory Soto, who recorded the save Wednesday, got the nod to begin the ninth, but he allowed two runs while retiring just a single batter. That forced manager A.J. Hinch to turn to Fulmer, and the righty delivered his second MLB save, with his other one coming earlier this month. Fulmer has looked comfortable in his bullpen role, and the Tigers seem to trust him in high-leverage spots. Soto should still be the closer moving forward despite the hiccup, but Fulmer is worth keeping an eye on.

Finding home in bullpen?
Manager A.J. Hinch didn't want to definitively say that Fulmer would remain in the bullpen all season but he has been pleased with how the righty has performed in relief, Evan Petz...
Impact
Fulmer had a rough 2020 campaign, posting an 8.78 ERA in 10 starts, but he's looked much better in relief this season, registering a 2.92 ERA across 12.1 innings out of the bullpen. The 28-year-old has found a little extra velocity as a reliever, and Hinch called him a "valuable weapon." To his credit, Fulmer has embraced the role, saying he wants to be "thrown into the fire" if he's going to remain in the bullpen. The Tigers may end up giving him some more starts this year, but for a team that has struggled to develop reliable bullpen options, Fulmer could quickly establish himself as one of its most trusted relievers.

Earns win in relief
Fulmer (2-2) earned the win in relief Saturday against the Twins after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk while fanning three.
Impact
Fulmer recorded the final two outs of the fifth inning and cruised his way until the end of the seventh, allowing just two baserunners and tossing 28 of his 47 pitches for strikes. Fulmer has started in four of his 10 appearances but has been effective as a reliever so far. He has gone five straight appearances allowing two or fewer runs and has now recorded two straight scoreless appearances.

Records first MLB save
Fulmer retired the final two batters of Wednesday's 6-5, extra-inning win over the Red Sox to record the save.
Impact
Gregory Soto started the 10th inning with a strikeout but then allowed back-to-back singles, so manager A.J. Hinch turned to Fulmer with the right-handed Hunter Renfroe coming up. Renfroe reached on an error, but Fulmer buckled down and retired the final two batters to record his first MLB save. The 28-year-old started Tuesday's game but lasted less than an inning, so he was able to help the team out after five other pitchers were used Wednesday. Fulmer is still slated to start next Tuesday against Kansas City, though Hinch may juggle his rotation to give the righty a little extra rest.

Struggles in short start
Fulmer (0-2) allowed four runs (two earned) across just 0.2 innings and took the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He gave up four hits and a walk with no strikeouts.
Impact
The Tigers were likely expecting a short start from Fulmer but this qualifies as a disappointment, as the righty couldn't even escape the first inning, making it his briefest appearance of the season. Fulmer's 4.57 ERA is an improvement from the 8.78 mark he recorded last year, but his inability to work deep into games limits his fantasy appeal. He's scheduled to take the mound again next Tuesday against the Royals and will look for better results.

Starting Tuesday
Fulmer will start Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Fulmer had been available out of the bullpen recently, but he'll draw his fourth start of the season in Tuesday's series opener against Boston. The right-hander hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his seven appearances this year, and he's posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 21 innings.
