Nick Neidert - Sent down after solid startThe Marlins optioned Neidert to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactSummoned from Triple-A after Pablo Lopez (shoulder) became the latest Miami starting pitcher to land on the injured list, Neidert stepped into the rotation Wednesday and gave the Marlins some quality innings in a 3-1 win over the Nationals. He covered five frames in a no-decision, permitting only one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Due to upcoming off days July 26 and 29, the Marlins can get by with a shortened rotation for the next week, but Neidert's solid outing Wednesday puts him in good position to receive a callup when a fifth starter is needed again.

Jordan Holloway - Likely to work as bulk relieverThe Marlins recalled Holloway from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. He's expected to work as a bulk reliever behind Anthony Bender in the...
ImpactThe Miami rotation has been in flux of late after Pablo Lopez (shoulder) recently joined a slew of other pitchers on the injured list, but Holloway looks like he'll get at least one game to serve as a de facto starter for Miami. Bender has maxed out at two innings over his 31 appearances to date, so he likely won't be asked to record more than six outs Thursday before giving way to Holloway, who owns a 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 9.3 K/9 across 30 innings with the big club this season.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Could return for next homestandChisholm (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment in the near future and could return from the 10-day injured list during the Marlins' upcoming homestand that begins July...
ImpactChisholm has been dealing with a bone bruise in his left shoulder recently, but he was able to play catch and take grounders on the field ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Padres. The 23-year-old looks like he could be in line for a fairly minimal stay on the IL as long as his rehab assignment goes as planned.

Anthony Bender - Opening Thursday's gameBender will serve as the Marlins' opening pitcher in Thursday's game against the Padres, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ImpactThe newly recalled Jordan Holloway is expected to serve as the Marlins' primary bulk reliever behind Bender, who will be making his first career start in the big leagues. The 26-year-old rookie has only one save to his name, but he's arguably been the Marlins' most reliable reliever this season. Through 31 appearances spanning 31.2 innings, Bender has posted a 2.27 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 40:8 K:BB.

Alex Avila - Resumes catchingAvila (calves) was able to catch bullpen sessions Tuesday, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.
ImpactAvila continues to incorporate more baseball activities into his rehab regimen as he works his way back from calf strains in both of his legs. He appears to be further along in his recovery than Yan Gomes (oblique), who has yet to resume swinging a bat since landing on the injured list. Tres Barrera will serve as Washington's No. 1 catcher until either Avila or Gomes makes it back from the IL.
