George Soriano - Returns to big leagues
Soriano was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Soriano has pitched well during his brief time in the majors this season, allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings. He did some starting in the minors, so he could provide the bullpen with a little length.

Matt Barnes - Heads to IL with hip injury
Barnes was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left hip impingement, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Barnes was rocked for five runs while recording just one out during Thursday's loss to the Padres, but it appears he might have been pitching hurt. The veteran reliever will be replaced in the bullpen by George Soriano.

Jonathan Davis - Swipes first bag
Davis went 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Padres.
Impact
The 31-year-old journeyman scored the Marlins' only run in the third inning after leading off the frame by drawing a walk and stealing his first bag of 2023. Davis has plugged a hole in center field while Jazz Chisholm (toe) is on the shelf, but after going 6-for-7 at Coors Field in his first two games for Miami, he's managed only two hits in his last 19 at-bats.

Jesus Luzardo - Falls to Padres
Luzardo (4-4) took the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings against the Padres. He struck out eight.
Impact
Luzardo falls to 1-2 over his last four outings, though he's logged at least seven strikeouts in each start. He was sharp in his first three innings Thursday, retiring the first nine batters faced while punching out five. However, the Padres pushed across two runs on a pair of doubles in the fourth, and Luzardo unraveled from there. The 25-year-old lefty's ERA is up to 4.05 with a 1.35 WHIP and 78:20 K:BB. Luzardo is currently lined up for a friendlier matchup at home against the Royals in his next outing.

Luis Arraez - Early exit Thursday
Arraez was pulled from Thursday's game against the Padres with an apparent leg injury, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Arraez appeared to be experiencing some level of discomfort in his left leg following a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth inning. He stayed in through the seventh before being replaced at second base by Garrett Hampson to begin the top of the eighth. Miami was down 10-1 at the time of the departure, so it could have been precautionary, but it's worth noting that Arraez missed a bit of time last week due to what was described as left leg cramping. He finished 1-for-2 with an RBI sac fly Thursday versus San Diego.

A.J. Puk - Remains on rehab assignment
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Wednesday that Puk (elbow) will make back-to-back rehab appearances before being activated, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Puk tossed a scoreless inning on 15 pitches in his rehab debut Tuesday with Double-A Pensacola, but the Marlins want him to fully test his left elbow before they return him to a high-leverage bullpen role. Those back-to-back appearances could come Thursday and Friday, though the timeline is not certain. The 28-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since May 14 because of elbow nerve irritation.

Jesús Sánchez - Remains out versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Impact
Though the Marlins reinstated Sanchez from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, he'll now be on the bench for a second straight game since being activated. The Marlins have faced left-handed starting pitchers in both of those contests, so the lefty-hitting Sanchez simply seems to be sitting for matchup-related reasons. Sanchez should play regularly versus right-handed pitching now that he's healthy again.

Joey Wendle - Out again versus lefty
Wendle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Impact
With the Marlins facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Blake Snell) for the third straight game, the lefty-hitting Wendle will once again be on the bench. Jon Berti will fill in for Wendle at shortstop.

Garrett Cooper - Gets rest Wednesday
Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
Impact
For the second time in four games, Cooper will take a sit while he remains in the midst of an unproductive stretch at the plate. Over his last 13 games, Cooper has slashed .143/.176/.286 with a 35.3 percent strikeout rate.
