Whiffs seven in win Scherzer (11-4) earned the win during Sunday's 13-4 victory over Oakland, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Impact New York jumped out to an early lead and Scherzer was able to limit the damage to a Seth Brown solo home run in the fourth inning in his second start back from an oblique injury. The 38-year-old fired 62 of 91 pitches for strikes with 10 of the swinging variety and has now surrendered just one run across 12 innings compared to 16 strikeouts over his last two starts. Scherzer sports a 2.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 169 strikeouts in 139.2 innings across 22 starts on the season. He's tentatively scheduled to pitch again next Sunday in Atlanta on Sunday Night Baseball.

Impact Scherzer was at the top of his game, but manager Buck Showalter pulled the right-hander after 68 pitches in what was Scherzer's first start back from an oblique injury. While he didn't get a chance to continue his bid for a perfect game, Scherzer picked up his 200th career win and helped the Mets clinch a postseason berth. He should be able to up his pitch count in his subsequent starts as he prepares himself for more important games in the playoffs.

Impact Scherzer will be rejoining the Mets for the final two and a half weeks of the season after he was cleared to return from the IL following his rehab start at Triple-A Syracuse last Wednesday. He struck out seven over 3.2 innings in his outing with Syracuse, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk. Scherzer tossed only 59 pitches in that outing, so he could face a light workload restriction in Monday's contest. The three-time Cy Young Award winner will line up for a two-start week, with his second turn set to come Sunday in Oakland.
