Goes five innings in loss Liberatore (3-6) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts over five innings.
Impact Liberatore started strong before allowing five runs over his final three frames. While it was encouraging to see the 25-year-old reach 90 pitches after exiting early with fatigue Thursday, he generated just eight whiffs and allowed 12 hard-hit balls. He'll carry a 3.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 62:11 K:BB across 73.1 innings into a favorable matchup with the White Sox next week.

Cleared to start Wednesday Liberatore (fatigue) will start Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact Liberatore was lifted early from his lasting outing against the Royals due to fatigue-related issues, but he never underwent imaging and will not miss a turn in the rotation. The left-hander will get an extra day of rest between starts before taking the ball in the series finale versus Toronto.

Unconcerned after early exit Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said his concern level was "not high" after Liberatore exited Thursday's start versus the Royals due to fatigue, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Po...
Impact The velocity on Liberatore's four-seamer dropped below 90 mph in the fifth inning, prompting a visit from Marmol and the trainer and the pitcher's eventual removal. However, Liberatore did not undergo imaging and there doesn't appear to be any worry that he's injured. Rather, the pitcher believes mechanical issues were the main factor in him feeling fatigued. Liberatore has struggled in back-to-back starts and it's possible he's going through a "dead arm" phase after he spent the bulk of last season in a relief role. The lefty is tentatively lined up to face the Blue Jays at home next week, but the date of his next start is not set in stone.

Cardinals' Matthew Liberatore leaves start against Royals with fatigue issues

St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore left the Cardinals’ game Thursday night against Kansas City because of fatigue
JUNE 6 • Associated Press
Dealing with fatigue Liberatore exited Thursday's start in the second game of a doubleheader against the Royals due to fatigue, Jim Hayes reports.
Impact Liberatore labored through four innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and a walk. His velocity was also down to 89.8 mph in his final at-bat, so fatigue is seemingly the best news possible. It's unclear if Liberatore will require further testing or whether he will take his next turn through the rotation.

Exits with trainer Liberatore exited the second game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Cardinals' head athletic trainer, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports
Impact Liberatore struggled across four innings prior to his exit, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and one walk. The exact nature of the injury is unclear, but his velocity dipped to 89.5 mph against the final batter he faced, per John Denton of MLB.com.

Rare dud in fourth loss Liberatore (3-4) took the loss Friday against Texas after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.
Impact It was a rare dud for Liberatore, who matched his season worst in runs allowed and gave up greater than two runs for the first time since April 7. Friday also marked just the third time all season that the southpaw yielded greater than two runs, but he still managed to toss at least five frames for the 10th time in 11 starts this year. Liberatore is still in possession of a 3.08 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a superb 56:9 K:BB across 64.1 innings prior to his next scheduled outing versus the Royals, who own a weak .614 OPS against left-handed pitching through their first 57 games of the year.

2025 MLB power rankings: Another change at No. 1, plus one pitching standout on every club
Stingy in no-decision Liberatore came away with a no-decision Saturday, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings in a 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. He struck out four without walking a batter.
Impact The 25-year-old southpaw served up a solo shot to Randal Grichuk in the fifth inning but was otherwise very efficient as he fired 61 of his 88 pitches for strikes. The quality start was Liberatore's seventh in 10 outings this season, and he's given up two runs or fewer in eight straight trips to the mound, posting a 1.91 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 40:8 K:BB through 47 innings over that span. Liberatore will look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Rangers.
