Fans nine in quality start Liberatore (5-11) took the loss against the Reds on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out nine.
Impact It was a bit of a hard-luck loss for Liberatore, who delivered a quality start and matched his second-highest strikeout total of the year. August has arguably been the southpaw's best month so far, as he's worked to a 4.03 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB in 22.1 innings (four starts). Liberatore will take a season 5.04 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 125:44 K:BB over 125 innings into his next scheduled outing against Baltimore.

Gets no help in Friday's loss Liberatore (5-10) took the loss Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over 5.1 innings as the Cardinals fell 3-0 to the Cubs. He struck out six.
Impact The 26-year-old southpaw put together one of his better performances of the season while tossing 58 of 95 pitches for strikes, but the St. Louis offense got completely shut down as Clay Holmes took a perfect game into the sixth inning. Liberatore hasn't gotten into the win column since before the All-Star break, going 0-4 over his last five starts with a 5.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB in 25.1 innings. He'll try to snap that streak in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.

Stumbles Saturday Liberatore (5-9) took the loss against Colorado on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings.
Impact Liberatore fell behind quickly, giving up a homer to Jake McCarthy to begin the game. Though that was the only long ball the hurler allowed, he surrendered three more runs in the third inning and an additional tally in the fifth. It was the fifth time this season Liberatore has given up at least five earned runs in an outing, and four of those performances have come over has past nine appearances. Though Liberatore has improved his K/9 to a career-best 8.7 this season, he's otherwise struggled with a 5.15 ERA through 113.2 innings.

Stellar in no-decision Liberatore didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing just one hit and a walk across six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.
Impact After giving up eight runs over nine innings in his last two starts, Liberatore responded with his best outing of the season Sunday, as he held Toronto to a lone single across six scoreless frames. Liberatore lowered his ERA to 4.97 with a 1.49 WHIP and 107:41 K:BB across 22 starts (108.2 innings) this season. The southpaw is currently slated to face the Rockies at home his next time out.

Lasts just 3.2 frames Monday Liberatore (5-8) took the loss against the Cubs on Monday, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 3.2 innings.
Impact Liberatore never seemed to settle in, giving up a run in each of the first, second and third frames. He was pulled with two outs in the fourth and replaced by Hunter Dobbins, who finished off the final 5.1 innings for St. Louis. Dobbins was only slightly more effective in yielding four runs, though his season ERA of 3.74 is vastly superior to Liberatore's 5.26 mark. It remains to be seen if the two will continue to work in a piggyback situation, but Liberatore is at least tentatively lined up to make his next start in Toronto this weekend.

Piggyback with Dobbins on Monday Liberatore is expected to be piggybacked by Hunter Dobbins in Monday's start versus the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact The opposition is slashing .358/.463/.627 off Liberatore the third time through the batting order, so the southpaw will likely be allowed to face the lineup just twice before turning things over to Dobbins. Liberatore has collected a 5.18 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 95:38 K:BB over 99 innings covering 20 starts for St. Louis this season.

Blitzed early in loss Liberatore (5-7) allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Angels.
Impact Liberatore gave up all five runs in the first inning before settling down to avoid overtaxing the bullpen. He's had some flashes of skill this year, but inconsistency has been a prominent theme -- he's allowed at least four runs in six of his last eight outings. Overall, the southpaw has a 5.18 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 95:38 K:BB through 99 innings over 20 starts. Liberatore's next start is projected to be at home versus the Cubs early next week since the Cardinals are opting to temporarily go to a six-man rotation this week.

Throws six scoreless innings Liberatore (5-6) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out six over six scoreless innings to earn the win over Atlanta on Saturday.
Impact This was Liberatore's first quality start in over two months -- his last was May 7 versus the Padres. He has completed six frames in just four of his 19 starts on the year, as elevated walk (3.5 BB/9) and home run (1.6 HR/9) rates have limited his ability to pitch deep into games this season. He's at a 5.00 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 88:36 K:BB through 93.2 innings.
