Goes four innings in rehab start
Boyd (knee) struck out two batters and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk across four innings Sunday in a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa.
Impact
The southpaw required a meniscectomy on his left knee May 7 but has made a swift recovery from the procedure, as he resumed facing hitters May 22 before receiving the green light to report to Iowa. He tossed 63 pitches (41 strikes) while inducing five swings and misses and averaging 93.1 mph with his four-seamer, which was up about a half-tick from his average over five starts with Chicago (92.5 mph). According to Marquee Sports Network, Cubs manager Craig Counsell said he received good feedback from Boyd's rehab start and noted that the lefty is set to rejoin the team in Chicago on Monday. Though Boyd had been expected to make one more rehab start to get further stretched out before returning from the 15-day injured list, the Cubs could elect to activate him early to make an abbreviated start during this weekend's series versus the Giants if he checks out well during his upcoming bullpen session.

Making rehab start Sunday
Boyd (knee) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
Impact
The veteran southpaw is ready to return to competitive setting a little over three weeks after undergoing a menisectomy on his left knee. Boyd did not need a full repair of his meniscus, and with his assignment to Iowa for his first rehab outing, it seems possible that could beat his initial six-week estimated return timetable. This is Boyd's second IL stint already this season, as he spent time on the shelf in April with a biceps strain.

Scheduled to throw off mound
Boyd (knee) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday and is on track for a bullpen session next week, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Impact
Boyd successfully underwent menisectomy surgery on his left knee last week, and the veteran right-hander told reporters Friday that it's "all good news" when it comes to his recovery. The recovery timeline for Boyd is six weeks, and if all goes according to plan, he would be back with the Cubs in mid-to-late June.

Undergoes meniscus surgery
Cubs general manager Carter Hawkins said Thursday that Boyd will be sidelined "more than a month for sure" following a left knee partial menisectomy, 104.3 The Score reports.
Impact
Hawkins noted that Boyd did not need a full repair of his meniscus, but rather "more of a trimming" of the damaged area. There's no concrete timetable for Boyd's return yet, but Hawkins believes "there's a really good chance" the southpaw is back on the active roster "relatively soon." Jordan Wicks (elbow) and Javier Assad are candidates to grab Boyd's spot in the Cubs' rotation.

Placed on 15-day IL
The Cubs placed Boyd (knee) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Monday.
Impact
The move comes after Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced that Boyd will undergo surgery to repair an meniscus injury in his left knee. The veteran southpaw's recovery timeline will be more clear once he undergoes the procedure, and there remains a possibility that he will be available to pitch again this season, though that won't likely happen until at least after the All-Star break. Jordan Wicks (elbow) is on a rehab assignment and is inching closer to being activated from the 15-day IL, but the Cubs may have to turn to an arm from Triple-A or a bullpen option like Ben Brown or Javier Assad to fill in for Boyd in the short term.

Getting surgery for meniscus injury
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Wednesday that Boyd will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his left knee, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Boyd sustained the injury while playing with his kids rather than during his last start against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, per Rogers. A timeline for Boyd's recovery won't be known until after he undergoes surgery, but he'll likely be out until after the All-Star break and may not be ready to return until the 2027 season. With Boyd slated to go on the IL, the Cubs may move Ben Brown or Javier Assad from the bullpen to the rotation or call up an arm from Triple-A Iowa like Charlie Barnes, at least until Jordan Wicks (elbow) is cleared to return from the 15-day IL.

Picks up win over Arizona
Boyd (2-1) earned the win Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts across six innings.
Impact
It was Boyd's first quality start of the season and the first time he's pitched at least six innings. After getting tagged for seven runs across 8.2 innings in two starts since returning from the injured list, Boyd was able to find some success Sunday. He threw 65 of his 94 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 6.00 with an impressive 31:6 K:BB across 24 innings this season. Boyd's 1.82 FIP entering Sunday suggests he's pitched significantly better than his box-score results. With an impressive 33.7 percent whiff rate, Boyd looks like a pitcher to buy in fantasy.
