Re-signs with Atlanta on MiLB deal Atlanta re-signed Perez to a minor-league contract Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact Perez elected free agency after clearing waivers following his removal from Atlanta's 40-man roster, but he's quickly re-upped on a minor-league pact. The veteran left-hander held a 3.14 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB across 14.1 innings during his time with the big club and will presumably join the rotation at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Elects free agency Perez cleared waivers Tuesday and elected free agency, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.
Impact Perez was jettisoned from Atlanta's 40-man roster Sunday despite posting a 3.14 ERA and 0.91 WHIP through 14.1 innings over three appearances (two starts) with the club. The 35-year-old's strong start will likely help him attract interest on the open market from teams in need of early rotation help.

Designated for assignment Atlanta designated Perez for assignment Sunday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact The left-hander has filled in well as a rotation piece for Atlanta, posting a 3.14 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB across 14.1 innings (three appearances). Perez will now go through the waiver process and can elect to hit free agency if he goes unclaimed.

Suffers tough-luck loss Saturday Perez (0-1) took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts over five innings.
Impact Perez surrendered a solo homer in the first before holding the Guardians scoreless over his final four frames. The veteran southpaw generated just six whiffs on 86 pitches and owns an unimpressive 6:4 K:BB through his first three starts, though he's managed a solid 3.14 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 14.1 innings in that span. He's slated for a road matchup against the Phillies next weekend.

Tagged for four runs Sunday Perez did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one over five innings.
Impact After opening the year with 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, Perez failed to find much consistency in his first start of the season. The 35-year-old ran into trouble right away, allowing a leadoff double to Ketel Marte who later scored on a sacrifice fly, and continued to pitch from behind throughout the outing. The biggest damage came in the fourth inning, when Ildemaro Vargas lined a two-run triple down the right field line, handing Arizona the lead. Despite throwing 75 pitches (47 strikes), Perez generated little swing-and-miss (4 whiffs) and finished with just one strikeout on the day.

Starting Sunday Perez will start Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.
Impact This was expected, but manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Perez will indeed step into the Atlanta rotation, replacing Jose Suarez. The 35-year-old lefty saved the bullpen after Suarez struggled Tuesday against the Athletics, allowing just two hits and striking out three over 4.1 scoreless innings. Perez figures to make at least a few starts while the team awaits the return of Spencer Strider (oblique).

Could move into rotation Perez may replace Jose Suarez when Atlanta next needs a fifth starter Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact While Suarez struggled in his start Tuesday and lasted just 3.2 innings, Perez saved the rest of the bullpen by tossing 4.1 scoreless innings of relief on only 47 pitches, allowing just two hits with a 3:0 K:BB in his season debut. Manager Walt Weiss has yet to tip his hand on which of them will get the nod Sunday, but Perez's performance likely makes him the favorite.

Won't start Tuesday Perez is expected to be available in relief for Tuesday's game against the Athletics with Jose Suarez being named Atlanta's starter, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution...
Impact After Atlanta selected Perez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, the veteran lefty appeared to be the most likely candidate to fill the vacant fifth spot in the rotation. Instead, manager Walt Weiss will call upon Suarez to step into the open rotation spot, after Suarez wasn't needed out of the bullpen in Atlanta's first four games of the season. Perez will instead serve as a long-relief option in place of Didier Fuentes, who was optioned to Gwinnett on Monday after working four innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's loss to Kansas City.

Likely to start Tuesday's game Atlanta selected Perez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Impact Perez is a good bet to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics, though Jose Suarez is also an option. The veteran left-hander put together a nice Grapefruit League showing with a 2.84 ERA and 10:3 K:BB over 12.2 innings. Perez could hold down a spot in Atlanta's rotation until Spencer Strider (oblique) is ready to go.
MARCH 30 • ROTOWIRE
Headed for minors Perez will remain with the Atlanta organization after coming up short in his bid for a spot on the Opening Day roster, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact The veteran lefty pitched well this spring, posting a 2,84 ERA and 10:3 K:BB over 12.2 innings, but the dominance of top prospect Didier Fuentes seems to have squeezed out Perez. He's expected to begin the season at Triple-A Gwinnett and could be one of the first players called up if further injuries hit the big-league rotation.
MARCH 21 • ROTOWIRE
Stretches out to four innings Perez gave up three runs on four hits and a walk over four innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. He struck out six.
Impact The veteran southpaw entered the game to begin the fifth inning and went the rest of the way, tossing 51 pitches (34 strikes), With Joey Wentz (knee) out of the picture, Perez is in line to work as Atlanta's sixth starter out of the gate as the team plays 13 straight games to kick off its campaign. Over 11 games (10 starts) for the White Sox in 2025, Perez produced a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB in 56 innings.
MARCH 12 • ROTOWIRE
Chance for roster spot improving Perez is now the favorite to open the regular season as Atlanta's sixth starter or as a potential swingman, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact Perez's chances of cracking the Opening Day roster appeared slim to none just a few weeks prior, but the injury bug continues to bite Atlanta's starting rotation. Joey Wentz (knee) is the latest casualty, as he was diagnosed with a torn right ACL on Monday. This will undoubtedly improve Perez's chances of making the big-league roster, especially when considering that Atlanta opens the campaign with 13 games in 13 day, making it all the more likely the club elects to carry six starting pitchers, per Bowman. "I love the fact that Martin's in our camp, the guy can still really pitch," said skipper Walt Weiss. Perez has surrendered one run while striking out three over five innings so far this spring.
MARCH 9 • ROTOWIRE
Makes spring debut Perez (shoulder) allowed one earned run on one hit over two innings of relief in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Orioles in Grapefruit League play.
Impact The veteran southpaw made his spring debut, covering a pair of frames out of the bullpen behind Spencer Strider, who made a two-inning start. With Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Hurston Waldrep (elbow) and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) all set to miss extended time to begin the season, Perez is expected to compete for a back-end spot in the Atlanta rotation during the spring. Perez signed with Atlanta on a minor-league deal in January after submitting a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB across 56 innings in 11 appearances (10 starts) with the White Sox in 2025.
MARCH 1 • ROTOWIRE
Goes to Atlanta on minors deal Atlanta signed Perez (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Friday, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact Elbow and shoulder woes limited Perez to just 56 innings in 2025 with the White Sox, but he pitched well when on the bump, collecting a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB. It's unclear whether the shoulder strain that ended his season will affect his readiness for the start of spring training. There isn't room for Perez in Atlanta's rotation as things currently stand, but the club has multiple starters coming back from injury.

Declines mutual option Perez (shoulder) declined his $10 million mutual option for 2026 on Tuesday and became a free agent.
Impact Perez will receive a $1.5 million buyout after declining his option. Elbow and shoulder injuries limited the left-hander to just 11 appearances (10 starts) in 2025, and he finished the season with a 3.54 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 56 innings. Although he performed well when healthy, health concerns and the fact that he's due to turn 35 in April may lower his value in free agency.
