The 35-year-old closer has a 3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and six strikeouts across 11.2 innings this season, and he's now 6-for-7 in save chances. He's given up runs in three of his last five outings, so he'll need to build on Sunday's scoreless effort to protect his claim to the closer role.

Impact The Braves' bullpen tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless work and was so close to making it to seven until Melancon was taken deep by Scott Kingery in the bottom of the 11th to walk it off for the Phillies. Melancon started off the season with seven straight scoreless innings but has recently shown major signs of regression as he has allowed five runs (four earned) in his last 3.2 innings of work. The Braves have a few other guys who are also capable of closing out games so it wouldn't be surprising to see Melancon eventually replaced if he continues to struggle.

Records fifth save Melancon allowed one hit with no walks and no strikeouts in a scoreless inning to earn the save in the second game of Atlanta's doubleheader Wednesday against the Yankees.

Impact Melancon came in to close the game in the seventh inning with a one-run lead. He allowed a two-out single to Gary Sanchez, but retired the next batter he faced to record his fifth save of the season. Melancon has earned five of the team's six saves to this point, and he's mostly done well in the role, allowing only two earned runs across 10 innings while striking out five and walking three.

Melancon's 2.00 ERA on the year looks good, but his 1.22 WHIP and 5:3 K:BB through nine innings highlight his lack of dominance in the closer role.

The right-hander has yet to allow a run this season and has converted all four of his save chances, and while his 4:0 K:BB through seven innings isn't dominant, Melancon seems to have a firm grip on Atlanta's closer job.
