Lands in Detroit Jackson signed a one-year, major-league contract with the Tigers on Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Jackson was cut loose by the Rangers on Friday after posting a 4.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 35 innings with the club. It didn't take very long for the 33-year-old righty to find his next gig, however, and he'll likely begin his tenure with Detroit as a middle reliever for the major-league team.

Becomes free agent The Rangers released Jackson on Friday.

Impact Jackson was DFA'd by Texas on Wednesday and wasn't claimed off waivers. He's now free to explore an opportunity elsewhere. Jackson was an impactful fantasy asset early this season when he saved eight games over the first month of the campaign, but he eventually lost the closer role in Texas and struggled in his final seven outings with the club, allowing seven runs (six earned) over 7.2 innings.

DFA'd by Rangers The Rangers designated Jackson for assignment Wednesday.

Impact Jackson still leads the Rangers with nine saves this season, but he has posted an uninspiring 4.11 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 24:19 K:BB over 35 innings. It's possible there will be some interest on waivers, but Jackson is unlikely to find himself in high-leverage situations wherever he winds up.

Texas rookie keeps scoreless start intact thanks to ball boy and pickle juice

Perfect for ninth save Jackson picked up the save Sunday against the White Sox, allowing no hits or walks with one strikeout over a scoreless ninth inning.

Impact Jackson received his first save chance since May 21 as closer Robert Garcia got the day off after throwing in back-to-back games. Jackson cashed in for his ninth save of the campaign, marking his first perfect appearance in five outings. The 33-year-old owns a 3.91 ERA and an 18:11 K:BB over 23 innings in 2025.

Yields walk-off homer in blown save Jackson (0-4) blew the save in Wednesday's 4-3 defeat to the Yankees, allowing one run on two hits in the ninth inning.

Impact Jackson gave up a walk-off home run to Jasson Dominguez, taking his second blown save of the season. The veteran right-hander has worked as Texas' primary closer to open the campaign, but his 5.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB over 14.2 innings likely loosens his grip on the gig and leaves the door open the door for the likes of Shawn Armstrong, Robert Garcia and Jacob Webb to see additional save chances in the future. Jackson missed some time with a swollen hand recently, and he's yielded six runs across his last 5.2 innings.

Retakes mound Sunday Jackson (hand) issued a walk and struck out a batter in a scoreless inning during Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Astros.

Impact After battling a swollen hand throughout the week after being hit by a comebacker May 12 against the Rockies, Jackson returned to the mound Sunday in a non-save situation. The right-hander didn't appear to have any lingering issues as he threw 10 of 15 pitches for strikes, and his average fastball velocity of 93.6 mph was only marginally lower than his season average. Shawn Armstrong picked up a pair of saves in his absence, but Jackson should reclaim primary closing duties now that he's healthy.

Hand still swollen Jackson's hand is still swollen but he was optimistic Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Impact Jackson reportedly has a decent amount of strength and is squeezing a stress ball as he looks to avoid an IL stint after getting hit on the hand by a comebacker Monday. Jacob Webb got the save after Jackson exited, but Chris Martin or Robert Garcia could also be options to get saves while Jackson is unavailable.
