Impact Patino re-signed with San Diego on a minor-league deal in January and began pitching in games as part of a rehab assignment in early May. Reports to camp after visa delay Patino has reported to Padres' camp after being delayed by visa issues, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact Patino landed back in his original organization via waiver claim this offseason. It's not clear whether the Padres plan to stretch him out to start or if he's pegged for a relief role. The latter would certainly be the most expedient way to get him ready for Opening Day after the delay.

Impact Prior to being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Sept. 1, Patino had made five starts for the White Sox's top minor-league affiliate, but he never covered more than four innings in any of those outings. He's since worked exclusively in relief following his call-up, topping out at four innings and 66 pitches over five appearances. Given his recent workloads, Patino might not be stretched out enough to reach the five innings he would need to qualify for a win even if he's economical with his pitch count. The White Sox have another multi-inning reliever in Deivi Garcia available on six days' rest, and he may be a better bet than Patino to qualify for a win if Chicago requires some length out of the bullpen.

Impact Patino will serve as the White Sox's additional pitcher as rosters expand to 28 players. The 23-year-old righty has struggled mightily this season with a 6.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 59.2 innings in Triple-A, and he surrendered four runs in four frames with the Rays earlier this year.

Impact Patino was moved to the bullpen a month ago with Durham and has struggled overall in the role with a 10.24 ERA, though much of that damage came in a May 12 appearance in which he surrendered seven earned runs. He had allowed just one run over his last five outings to earn the call back to the big leagues as a replacement in the bullpen for Calvin Faucher (elbow), who was moved to the 15-day injured list.

Impact Patino threw a scoreless inning Saturday for Durham in his first relief appearance of the season following a 6.66 ERA in six starts. While it doesn't necessarily look like a permanent move, if Patino helps the Rays in 2023 it seems like it will be as a reliever. "The best version that we saw of Luis was probably in (2021), I think when he was coming out of the bullpen for us," manager Kevin Cash said. "He was very, very powerful."
