Impact Gilbreath served as the extra man for a doubleheader in mid-April but didn't get to make his MLB debut. He's up in place of Antonio Senzatela (gron) this time around, though he's unlikely to take Senzatela's place in the rotation, which isn't set to come up until Tuesday. Gilbreath was almost exclusively a starter in the minors, but he's yet to pitch above High-A and struggled to a 5.81 ERA at that level in 28 starts in 2019.

Impact Gilbreath was in the mix for an Opening Day roster spot during camp but has yet to pitch above High-A. As a result, he'll start the season at Triple-A Albuquerque but could be considered to make his major-league debut at some point in 2021. The southpaw made eight Cactus League appearances this year and posted a 7.36 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 7.1 innings.

In mix for roster spot Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Gilbreath is in the mix for an Opening Day roster spot, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Impact Gilbreath's contract was selected by the Rockies in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but he hasn't pitched above High-A. The southpaw had a rough outing Wednesday while allowing four runs over two-thirds of an inning against the Giants, but he's been relatively effective otherwise and has struck out 12 batters across 6.2 innings. Even if Gilbreath begins the year in the majors, he shouldn't have a high-leverage role for Colorado.
