Impact Conforto got the Dodgers on the board in the fifth inning, smacking an opposite-field homer off Randy Vasquez to tie the game 1-1. Impact Roberts previously suggested that Casparius may move into a starting role to help out a Dodgers rotation that has been decimated by injuries. The 26-year-old righty pitched four innings of one-run ball during Wednesday's bullpen game -- a good enough showing for the team to commit to using him as a starter for the immediate future. Casparius has worked primarily out of the bullpen to the tune of a 2.79 ERA since arriving in the majors last season, though he served as a starter in nearly all of his minor-league outings.

Impact Casparius technically made his second start of the season Wednesday, but he was deployed as something between an opener and a traditional starter after he had previously been working out of the bullpen. The right-hander was still stretched out enough to give the Dodgers four innings and 54 pitches in the outing, finishing the night with two strikeouts and one earned run allowed on three hits and two walks. The 26-year-old has found success no matter how the Dodgers have used him this season, as he now owns a shiny 2.86 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 46:9 K:BB across 44 innings. He'll still likely be on somewhat of a workload restriction in his next start -- which is expected to fall early next week at home versus the Padres -- but Casparius could be capable of giving the Dodgers five or six innings and around 70 to 80 pitches.

Freddie Freeman - In lineup despite quad issue Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Freeman is in Wednesday's lineup in San Diego in spite of a quad injury suffered Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact The injury likely means Freeman will be running at less than 100 percent, but "he's managing it," per Roberts. Freeman has played in every game since April 11 for the Dodgers, starting all but two contests over that span. Unless the injury gets worse, it sounds like Freeman will continue trying to play through it.
