Re-signs with KBO team The Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization re-signed Diaz to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
Impact Diaz has become a star in Korea, having slugged 50 home runs while driving in 158 runs over 144 games for the Lions in 2025. The former Marlin last appeared in the majors in 2022 and will remain overseas for at least one more season.
NOVEMBER 25 • ROTOWIRE
Remaining in Korea The Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization re-signed Diaz to a one-year, $600,000 contract Monday, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
Impact He can earn an additional $200,000 in incentives. Diaz, 28, began this season in the Mexican League before finishing it in the KBO, putting up an .849 OPS with seven homers in 29 contests for the Lions. He last appeared in the majors in 2022 with the Marlins.
NOVEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to Korea Diaz signed with the Samsung Lions of the KBO on Thursday, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
Impact Most notably a prospect with the Twins late last decade who saw brief runs in the majors with the Marlins from 2020-22, Diaz spent 2024 playing in the Mexican League. He slashed .376/.452/.647 with 19 home runs in 75 games.
AUGUST 16, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Cut by Nats The Nationals released Diaz on Tuesday.
Impact The Nationals sent Diaz to minor-league camp earlier this spring, but the 27-year-old will now look for another opportunity elsewhere in free agency. He slashed .192/.222/.385 across 27 plate appearances during spring training and should be able to secure another minor-league deal.
MARCH 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Reassigned to minor-league camp The Nationals reassigned Diaz to minor-league camp Sunday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Diaz signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals in late December. He had a .804 OPS with 17 home runs over 118 games for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, but saw no time in the majors during the 2023 season.
MARCH 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Healthy, not with affiliate yet Diaz (shoulder) is playing in Florida and will link up with Triple-A Norfolk for their home opener Tuesday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Diaz dealt with a sore shoulder in the middle of March and was ultimately reassigned to minor-league camp. The 26-year-old bounced around on waivers a lot throughout the offseason, so there could be some demand if he's blocked from a big-league spot in Baltimore and shows well at the Triple-A level.
APRIL 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sent to minor-league camp Diaz (shoulder) was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Orioles on Monday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.
Impact Diaz has missed the last week or so with a shoulder injury, effectively ending what slim chance he might have had to crack the Opening Day roster. Once healthy, the former Marlins prospect should see regular starts at first base at Triple-A Norfolk.
MARCH 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Still a few days away Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Sunday that Diaz (shoulder) is still a few days away from a return, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Diaz has been able to take batting practice while dealing with his sore shoulder, but the 26-year-old is still not ready to return to the lineup at this point. Since Diaz is not on the 40-man roster, the Orioles could place him on the minor-league injured list if he's not ready for the start of the season.
MARCH 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Will take batting practice Friday Diaz (shoulder) plans to take batting practice Friday and return to game action in a few days, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact Diaz had to be scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a sore left shoulder, but he's expected to be fine. The 26-year-old is attempting to crack the Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee.
MARCH 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with sore shoulder Diaz was scratched from Baltimore's lineup Tuesday due to left shoulder soreness, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact Orioles manager Brandon Hyde noted that Diaz's injury "doesn't sound too severe," so the 26-year-old first baseman should be able to return to action relatively soon. Diaz logged just a .512 OPS in the majors last season, but he is off to a solid start this spring, slashing .250/.375/.500 through 24 plate appearances.
MARCH 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Scratched from Tuesday's lineup Diaz was scratched from the Orioles' lineup Tuesday due to undisclosed reasons, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact The Orioles should provide more information on Diaz's status shortly. Coby Mayo will slide into the Baltimore lineup in Diaz's place.
MARCH 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Makes impact in spring game Diaz went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two total runs scored in Sunday's Grapefruit League win over the Tigers.
Impact Diaz is one of a handful of lefty hitters in contention for a bench spot with the Orioles this spring. He made a strong first impression Sunday, knocking in all four RBI during a nine-run fifth inning. Diaz could face an uphill battle to get back on the 40-man roster, as he has played exclusively at first base and designated hitter in the majors, and he has just four games of experience in left field in the minors since 2018. If the Orioles opt for a more versatile option like Terrin Vavra or Franchy Cordero, Diaz would likely begin the year with Triple-A Norfolk.
FEBRUARY 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
For Lewin Díaz, this MLB offseason was a wild, waiver-filled odyssey As baseball sagas go, Díaz’s probably will not linger as this offseason’s most memorable. But it was unusual.
JANUARY 19, 2023 • WASHINGTONPOST.COM
Sent outright to Triple-A Diaz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles on Tuesday, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reports.
Impact Diaz's outright assignment marks the 10th transaction he's been involved in this offseason. Finally, though, he can stay put within an organization, at least for now. The 26-year-old will likely be in major-league camp for the Orioles this spring as a non-roster invitee.
JANUARY 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Loses 40-man spot once again The Orioles designated Diaz for assignment Wednesday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.
Impact For the fifth time this offseason, Diaz has been moved off an organization's 40-man roster with the Orioles needing a spot for reliever Darwinzon Hernandez, who was acquired from the Red Sox. The 26-year-old Diaz's prospect pedigree and strong minor-league production have made him an intriguing pickup on the cheap this offseason, but his poor results at the big-league level and lack of defensive versatility have also kept him on the periphery of 40-man rosters.

JANUARY 5, 2023 • THEATHLETIC.COM
Headed back to Baltimore Diaz was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Thursday.
Impact It's been quite a whirlwind for Diaz this offseason, as he's gone from Miami to Pittsburgh to Baltimore to Atlanta and now back to the O's via either waivers or trade. This time he's taking the roster spot of Ryan O'Hearn, who was just acquired by the Orioles on Tuesday. Assuming he isn't on the move again before Opening Day, Diaz will compete for playing time at first base against righties.
JANUARY 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Removed from 40-man Diaz was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Wednesday.
Impact Following Atlanta's acquisition of Lucas Luetge from the Yankees on Wednesday, Diaz serves as the roster casualty to make room for the veteran reliever. Diaz has already bounced between four teams this offseason, and it's possible he could be claimed off waivers yet again in coming days.
DECEMBER 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Busy offseason continues Diaz was traded to Atlanta from Baltimore in exchange for cash considerations Thursday.
Impact Diaz will join his fourth team of the offseason, as he's bounced between Pittsburgh and Baltimore after being designated for assignment by Miami in mid-November. He'll hope for a longer stay in Atlanta, though his fit is unclear with Matt Olson locked in at first base. Across 343 career big-league plate appearances, Diaz has a 54 wRC+ and 29 percent strikeout rate so he also isn't a strong candidate for at-bats as the designated hitter.
DECEMBER 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Pirates add Lewin Diaz, a blast from Derek Shelton's past, to mix at first base Lewin Diaz was a highly touted Twins international prospect. Now, he’s part of the Pirates’ mix at first base.
NOVEMBER 22, 2022 • POST-GAZETTE.COM
Grabbed by Pirates The Pirates claimed Diaz off waivers from the Marlins on Tuesday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact The 26-year-old has landed in a spot where he could have a realistic path to playing time, as his primary competition at first base and designated hitter will be players like Ji-Man Choi (elbow) and Miguel Andujar. Nothing in Diaz's track record thus far suggests he deserves regular playing time at a key offensive position, however. In 112 career major-league games, he's hit .181/.227/.340.

DFA'd by Miami Diaz was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday.
Impact Diaz appeared in 46 games over the final two months of the season, but he was unable to take advantage of the playing time with a .518 OPS and 30.5 percent strikeout rate during that stretch.
NOVEMBER 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
On bench against lefty Diaz will sit Saturday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Diaz hits the bench as the Marlins load up on righties against lefty Aaron Ashby. Charles Leblanc will start at first base.
